I heart comics people

Great times at the Stumptown Comics Fest yesterday. After a rough start to my morning, I got there and was immediately in the thick of the awesome - Victoria was there! Johnzo was there! Shannon gave me a coffee mug (and a weekend pass)! Jeff and Kathy gave me one of their spare digital cameras (expect to start seeing pix on this LJ soon... aren't you thrilled?)! Ben and Serena were there! Steve Lieber and Sara Ryan were there and THEY gave me zines and comics! DH sold a bunch of stuff! The room was crawling with hot nerd boys! And we were surrounded by brilliant, funny, amazing independent comics, zines, artwork, T-shirts, toys, gadgets, and enthusiasm.

Great to hang with Jeff and Kathy. Who'd have thought my friend from high-school freshman year would return to my life, with an amazing other person in tow? They have one of those marriages that I think is wonderful - it doesn't just make them happy and fulfilled, it actually brings joy and insight to the people around them. Maybe I just say that because it benefits me, but it's really amazing how well Kathy and I get on. Good work, Jeff - you snagged a keeper.

The afterparty at Cosmic Monkey Comics was great, too; I got cheerful information, I drank beer and had a lovely beer-nerd discussion with the guy filling the cups, I hugged the profoundly adorable Shawna, I finally saw David Walker (I couldn't find him at the actual Fest, because I was overwhelmed), talked to Michael Entler for a while (I love that guy... his creepy, scary, visceral art-project "haunted-house"-style installations are absolute genius) and I even got a ride home. Not bad for the second day in a row I've had to lie down for a while before I could actually deal with the evening. I hope today's going to be okay without it; I won't really have time.

Heavy rain. It's beautiful, even if it does make me want to stay inside all day watching Doctor Who. But first, I am watching Monday night's Heroes again, and breakin' it down...

yay, comics, blee, where the hell were you last night?
