Had a very eventful day on Monday :) it was Rachel's birthday!
It started at Applebee's, which is a good way to start since I got a free Blue Ribbon Brownie! I had lunch with Rachel and Rachel's mum, I enjoy Rachel mum's company so that was nice :-D. Once we got done with lunch we took Mrs Porter home and had to head out to the cable company to pay a bill, that was over and done with pretty quickly. Rachel had to head into AU to collect her papers from Dr White (though it turned out she hadn't marked them yet). Headed promptly over to Marylee's, long drive, to pick up her final paper - she was feeling ill so we got those posted, having to drive back to the University.
I wanted to get some English ale because Rachel had found a place that sold a wide-range of imported alcohol... So we headed over there and I picked up four cans of Abbot Ale and two miscellaneous bottles of English ale... While I was in there I grabbed some South African red wine (Shiraz 2007). It's called "Savanha", I thought that was neat.
Then we had to make a choice because we wanted to have a meal and see a movie... We had thought of trying an Indian restaurant that we'd looked up on Google... But it turns out the one Rachel had in mind was located in London, though listed as being in Savannah! But we found an alternative so drove out to find it... We drove and drove and it was getting fairly dark, so we turned back and drove to the spot where Google had pin-pointed and there were a few restaurantS nearby, but not the Indian restaurant we were looking for :(.
Instead we found an Italian that Rachel wasn't too keen on, but they seemed to have plenty of customers (though this might be through lack of choice rather than their fantastic food). Service was good, nice wine and good food, we both thought so (it was only me drinking the wine of course).
We got done with that and headed to the cinema, it was very quiet inside due to the Mondayness. The film, Four Christmases, was okay... Nothing great, nothing too terrible. The cinema screen was smaller than what I'm used to in Bournemouth and Poole.
By the time we had got back home it was midnight and I'd spent most of the journey home nodding off... Rachel had to stay switched on as she was driving us... Needless to say we both slept fantastically that evening and didn't wake up until late afternoon on Tuesday, we got up and went to The Waffle House to grab a bite to eat. Nom-nom-nom! I had a cheese burger, Rachel had exploding bacon. We then headed into University, so Rachel could go to class. I sat in the honors lab in the afternoon with Don and read some of my book on UML 2 and the Unified Process. Rachel had to take Marylee her gown, so I just stayed in the honors lab... Several hours later I was getting fairly tired so I gave Rachel a call. Thankfully she was nearby and was coming to print off some sources, once she was done I had her drive me to the store so I could pick up some snacks. By the time we were home it was 10pm and we were both really drained and had an early morning... We headed up to bed and slept nicely.
Wednesday Rachel took me to the shopping centre (or "mall" as they call it here) so I could do some Christmas shopping, while Rachel headed to University so she could work on her papers due Friday (though actually spent most of the day doing Marylee's bidding). I spent a good while in the book store, and then headed out to explore the rest of the shopping centre... I ended up looking at all the jewelery stores. Rachel and I had decided we would like to get ourselves some "promise rings", when the idea was first suggested by Rachel I shrugged it off as a silly over-indulgent act of love... But after a while I thought to myself that I would like to have something with me constant that symbolised our commitment to one-another.
I picked out a couple of rings and had them reserved (for a small deposit). I carried on my shopping... Grabbed some lunch... Done loads more walking around shops. Then I decided I wanted to venture to the other side of the road... By the time I got there though my feet were aching and I needed to sit down somewhere... I looked around and spotted a Longhorn not too far away and headed over there.
My initial thought was just to consume a couple of beers slowly until Rachel got some of her study done, I didn't want to disturb her too early on. But I sank the beer really quick and thought if I was going to have another beer that I should grab some food too... So I ordered my usual (quarter-pound beef burger with bacon and cheese, plain) and it came back with mustard and tomato in it :( most displeasing, but I nom-nom-nomed it anyways. I had a beer with my meal... And then sat back up at the bar with a whisky and coke and read a book I'd bought a few hours previous.
I eventually got very lonely, I had spent a day without Rachel and I've found myself wanting to be with her always here... It wasn't the same in England, I was more comfortable at home. But here she's my only real friend. So I called her up and she came to get me. She explained that she hadn't really had a productive day.
We swung by the jewelery store where I had reserved the rings... And we looked at the ones I'd picked out as well as some alternatives. More to come on that. I look forward to posting the pictures on Monday.
Rachel had to head back into University, and then we had dinner plans with Serena. We asked Don to join us too, which he did. I had an enjoyable evening, but most of the movie jokes that Rachel and Don like to laugh at went straight over my head. I wish I had room in my tummy for some alcohol because I would have been able to loosen up a little... Without alcohol I'm a fairly quiet, proud, British fella. Or at least I like to think so! Instead I filled what space was left with a horrid Lasagna.
We went home and slept. Actually on Thursday we managed to oversleep a little, which wasn't good for Rachel since she had two papers due the next day. She spent the day doing that and I just relaxed and kept her going until she needed some sleep.
Today has been rushed, Rachel has handed in her paper for Dr White and is working on her paper for Dr Price. I'm sat in the honors lab, Rachel's behind me working.
Sorry for the huge update. I'll post some pictures later on.
