I *loved* Portland. It was the best 7 years of my life. The community is awesome, and there's tons of shows to go to. The down side is that the cost of living is kinds high and it's practically impossible to afford a house to buy there. But if you're a single 20-something, you can always find a room to rent cheaply. It's a great place if you want to find yourself, find a great community quickly, and have a lot of fun. Check out Portland Reclaiming for a good place to meet some great witches. They do public rituals at almost every sabbat, and also offer some amazing classes. I personally vouch for those witches and they are awesome people. royalbananafish on my friend's list is involved in the OTO community there and really likes what they have to offer. She's also quite knowledgeable about lots of things in the Portland magical community.
The reason we left is that we had Star and no family around. It made it hard to enjoy a lot of what Portland had to offer. Plus, we wanted to buy a house, and the old 1920's bungalows in the center of town were selling for $250,000 - $350,000. Contrast that with the $133,000 we paid for the same house here in Tucson. And Andrew's family was here, so we have instant grandparents and uncles and cousins etc. :)
