Here I sit, eating yesterday's pizza at 9 in the morning. I'm bored, restless, and hungry. Oh...and some coffee would be nice, too ( Read more... )

Leaving the town you grew up in can be really awesome. I left Raleigh, North Carolina (where I grew up) in 1996 for the greener pastures of Portland, Oregon and it was the best thing I ever did. I went with a couple of friends and starting over wasn't easy, but I learned a ton and felt a lot better about myself. Then I moved down here a couple of years ago. I don't regret any of it.

And Andrew grew up here, then moved to Portland for 3 years, and then came back to Tucson. He often talks about all the things he would never have learned if he had stayed here.

Food for thought. Good Luck!

I think it's really cool that you lived in Raleigh. I really want to go to school there for parapsychology eventually.

Speaking of Portland, did you like it there? That's actually where I was considering moving to. There is a lot going on in the magical community from what I hear. Also, I think it is absolutely beautiful. What is the cost of living like? And are there any downsides that you saw while living there?

I *loved* Portland. It was the best 7 years of my life. The community is awesome, and there's tons of shows to go to. The down side is that the cost of living is kinds high and it's practically impossible to afford a house to buy there. But if you're a single 20-something, you can always find a room to rent cheaply. It's a great place if you want to find yourself, find a great community quickly, and have a lot of fun. Check out Portland Reclaiming for a good place to meet some great witches. They do public rituals at almost every sabbat, and also offer some amazing classes. I personally vouch for those witches and they are awesome people. royalbananafish on my friend's list is involved in the OTO community there and really likes what they have to offer. She's also quite knowledgeable about lots of things in the Portland magical community ( ... )
