Love me them programmer-written emails...

Jan 27, 2010 17:27

The email I just received from the MTA was sent by a programmer. How do I know that? Well the message formatting is very basic, text-only. And look at the creative use of the asterisk! It's soooo 1999 (just like me)!

But another wonderful tip-off: there is not one link in this email, not one. Why? "Of course everyone knows where the MTA site is and how to log on already, because they're getting the email alerts." Yes, I can recognize the classic Programmer Think from miles away.

The author of this email may even have worked at Microsoft before. Do you doubt it? ;-)

Dear MTA Email Alert Customer,

As of Tuesday, January 26, 2010, we made the following two changes requested by E-Alert subscribers:

1 * You can now customize the type of service information you
receive:

- receive only real-time alerts
- receive only planned service changes (Weekend and/or weekday/late night)
- receive both types

We strongly suggest that all subscribers sign on to their E-Alert accounts to review their current subscription settings and make any necessary subscription changes.

2 * You can now suspend your E-Alert subscription for a period and then resume it with exactly the same preferences as before: Just sign into your account to let us know you when to Suspend/Reactivate your subscription. The buttons for doing this are at the bottom of the Customer Account Management page (the first page shown after you log in).

Thank you for using the email and text message alert system.
