GAH! Oh, this was so good! So concise, too (I'm too detailed and wordy, so I really admire that in a writer). I definitely think this is a great study of Ana Lucia and the thoughts that would have been running through her head. And it just kept getting better and better. Here are some of my favourite bits:

"She had felt alive again when she first fired a gun after she was shot.
Now she feels dead inside." Just breaks my heart. Though I think she probably felt dead before killing Shannon. Nevertheless, I can completely understand how Ana Lucia would feel even more so now.

"Ana Lucia knows that Henry Gale is one of Them. But she also knows that if she takes his life, she'll see it in her nightmares every night. 'You're the killer, Ana Lucia...'" Oh dear lord, the thought of seeing Henry Gale say that every night would be enough to drive anyone crazy!

"She sees them every night, Shannon, Goodwin, the baby." Aw. Poor Ana Lucia. I think if more of the fans understood this about her, she wouldn't have gotten so much hate.

"Gale told her that Goodwin hadn't been trying to kill her, that he thought she was a good person. And she remembers what Libby said, about how she wasn't sure Ana was a good judge of character." Also breaks my heart, Ana Lucia having to second-guess herself. Though I think Libby's warning of "don't do anything stupid" probably affected her in that armory, too. Too bad she didn't hear Libby's words when she handed the gun to Michael. Actually I think that was what upset me most about Ana Lucia's death - it just seemed so out of character for her to have given Michael the weapon in the first place. But now I'm ranting.

"Ana realised then that it wasn't for her to play God, to decide who lived and who died." Which is why she would have been such an amazing character if she hadn't been killed off before her time.

"The first time Ana held a gun in her hand and made the decision not to fire was to be the last time she ever held a gun." In a way, I kinda thought this was good for Ana Lucia. Many characters on Lost were only done away with once they had "resolved their issues" and "redeemed themselves" spiritually. (Or at least that used to be the case, I don't know if it is anymore as I stopped watching shortly after Ana Lucia was killed.) For her child and to protect those around her, yes she was capable of killing. But murder out of revenge for only herself wasn't truly in heart. Ana Lucia had passed that final test, proving to herself that she was imperfect and flawed, but essentially good.

Still. The whole thing is just so tragic, especially considering how she started off; shooting for the greater good - to help prevent more pain an suffering.

I was listening to a Tori Amos song called "Playboy Mommy" while I was reading this and it just seems so appropriate, especially for the the bit about killing Jason.

Loved the fic. It'll be going under my "memories."

Thanks for reading and thanks for the feedback! it's always nice to meet someone who actually understands Ana and doesn't automatically hate her based on her first couple of appearances.
