In your own space, share a favorite memory about fandom: the first time you got into fandom, the last time a fanwork touched your heart, wild times with fellow fans (whether on-line or off-line), a lovely comment you’ve received or have left for someone.
I first became aware of fandom when I was in my second year at St Andrews, and my ex convinced me to go and see the first Harry Potter. At the time, there were a few people in that friendship group who were very into writing Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings slash, so that was how I first became aware that it existed. Without getting into the whole drama, by the time a year had gone by I no longer had anything to do with that friendship group, and was choosing to keep out of the fandom world in the hope of not bumping into them.
Then a few years down the line I started watching Lost, and started getting into writing fics for the show - missing backstory, theories for future episodes. If you know me well you know this, but I love writing about characters who don't get a lot of attention in the original canon, often characters who are actively disliked by the fandom. The honest answer is, I don't think it's usually as simple as "X is a dick" and there's usually some reason why X is the way they are. While there seemed to be a lot of focus on pairings like Jack/Sawyer when I first became active in the Lost fandom, people accepted that I was more interested in things like stories that shed light on characters like Ethan, and would write about that. Even if anyone in the fandom thought that was weird no one ever came out and said so, everyone encouraged me in my attempts to write just about every character.
