The house concert went damn well. I'm delighted with how neatly things worked out: aside from my housemates and the entertainers themselves, twenty-one people came as audience members, which is exactly the right size of crowd to pack our living room. Walter Philip Durian, or Wally for short.  He grew from a durian seed I took home (submerged in ice to kill the smell) after an exotic fruit feast at Readercon 2011.  I'm going to re-pot him tomorrow, as he's grown a lot and acquired another leaf in the month since I took this photo.  He is a fine, strong young tropical plant, and I hope to help ( Read more... )

I'm returned from Readercon.  It was fun, it was delightful, it was tantalizing, it was not nearly long enough.  I feel like I drank a sip of lemonade and ate a frosting rose off the side of a slice of cake, and then I blinked and the feast disappeared.  There are at least a dozen people I want to talk all afternoon with, and who knows when?  ( Read more... )
