Well, this whole living "on my own" thing has been quite the experience. And its only been about a week. Its been great though, except for my
For lunch (ok, for breakfast, but I woke up too late for that) I wanted french toast and bacon. Ok, I've been craving this for a while, but yesterday my dad and I went shopping and I got bread and bacon so I could do it.
Mmm. Bacon (sorry to all of the vegetarians).
Doesnt that look great? Well, let me tell you first hand, that it was. And I might just have to have it again tomorrow (though I'm short on eggs).
But this evening, I only had a poptart for dinner, and so I was getting pretty hungry. I wanted soup. I had soup. Hmm, 1 + 1 = 2! So I went about making soup, until I realized that I lack one important piece of equipment to make soup. A FREAKING CAN OPENER! My dad said he gave me one for christmas, but apparently I left it at home. So I got creative.
I started with a hack saw, but the blade on this thing is so freaking dull that it wasnt going to get through the can quickly, easily, or neatly.
So I got creative. I am a 19 year old, testosterone driven, power tool loving guy. TO THE BASEMENT. Keep in mind, that I've been playing with power tools all week working on my coral prop tanks.
I started with the electric drill. It worked fine until I realized that the largest hole I could make was a 1" hole. This soup is the thick concentrate - no way its going to just pour out of the 1" hole. Making several holes was calling for disaster. A 10,000rpm drill would get soup concentrate ALL over the basement. The 5 second rule doesnt count in this case...
So I got the jigsaw out. Same problem as the hack saw - multiplied. The blade is too dull to cut the metal effectively (sideways that is) due to the 1/8" steel I cut for the ammo case PC case mod I did a few summers ago.
Fortunately I had the fore thought to realize that this likely was not a good idea. But it would have been wicked fun. You cant even imagine!
So I settled for some lower-tech solution, and whipped out the wire cutter/strippers. It worked, but not with the flair that I was hoping for with earlier attempts.
SUCCESS! I was left with an open soup can, complete with very jagged - and sharp, I have a cut on my thumb to prove it - edges, and recloseable, but not resealable lid.
In the end, I am left with a nice hot bowl of tomatoe soup with some cheese mixed in for flavor.
This is me, just before chowing down. Yes, I found it necessary to take the picture BEFORE I ate the soup. Thats how excited I was.
So there you have it. An epic saga, taking no more than 20 minutes to complete from closed can to hot bowl of soup. Mmm mmm good.
