According to an article in the Courier & Press of Evansville something possibly a bit scarier than the annual Guns & Hoses charity boxing match went down between a cop and a firefighter in Indiana's third-largest city. The incident prompted an internal affairs investigation after a photograph from the incident went viral.

please don't ever refer to me "a black" or even "a Black". I'm a person. I don't mind if you call me (or another Black person) "a person who is Black" or "a Black person". And I don't mind hearing a White person being called "a White person" or "a person who is White"*.

If the claims in the following update are true, I feel a lot better about the hospital in question, though they still appeared to have dropped a rather large ball.

One comment I see over and over when many women of multiple races have online discussions about Black women with Black hair is, “It’s just hair!”

I’ve devoted gigabytes of disk space trying to respond to those comments in way that was not overly emotional. As the roots of why it's not “just hair” -- why, for many, many women, this is a subject ( Read more... )
