Plot; Behaviour Modification Chemicals

Nov 23, 2010 00:25

DR PRICE:
In the branch of laboratories at the base camp in Washington, there were so many aspects of experiment running and so many counter strategies being worked on that it was hard to really get to the root of the purpose behind the place. What one young mind had been told, was that it was a method of expanding on the stock of biological warfare at the militaries disposal. She wasn't rightly sure how that encompassed her, her own expertise lay in the genetics and chemical secretion of animals, but for some reason, it meant her too.

Discovering what she was meant to do had been a thrill, finding that she'd successfully isolated the compounds and suitably grafted a chemical with a substantial success percentile had been the icing on the cake. Naturally, Dr Price, PhD was excited to bring her news to the General. Practically running from the science labs, excusing herself from her post, Price approached the offices with a case in hand and sought to speak with the General at the earliest convience.

Like, now.

GENERAL STONE:
General Stone is a military boy through and through, it’s in his blood line, his heritage and his history; the line goes back beyond his father, his fathers’ father, his great grand-father or even his great-great-great grandfather. There has been a Stone in the military since before the Battle of Gettysburg and each of them has served at least at the rank of General and even one Stone who held the honour of Marshal. So why is General Stone here at Fort Wenachee? What is it that made him so happy to eagerly agree to work with Miss Frost? Well it is because he is a man who is well aware of the changing tides.

The Military isn't like it used to be, full of true blue blooded americans focused on the passion of glory and allegiance to the United States. It's more of a business, concerned with profit and the welfare of its men. So when presented with an opportunity like this, what Miss Frost was requesting? Well he'd have been a fool not to agree.

And perhaps take advantage of the opportunities that arose too. All with the benefit of the majority in mind of course you understand.

Interrupting his train of thought Catherine, his pretty PA with a sweet disposition and an ass you could bounce a nickel off of, buzzed his phone in his office announcing that Dr Price was eager to see him asap. Of course the General wanted to see her immediately, Dr Price was hopefully here with good news as to her studies.

Standing from his seat the General waited for Dr Price to enter.

DR PRICE:
Price was directed in, her heart hammering in her chest. It was like high school and university all over again; she'd never been good at public speaking, she'd never been good at speaking, it was why she was so good in her own field -bugs and animals, you see, never spoke back. Either way, this awas a cosmic break through for her; proven and tested on the mice and now ready for mass testing, just like it was asked of her. If only she could be put forth for a prize with this.

"General, sir." Despite not having a clue about military protocol or procedure, Price was beyond polite and used that to make up for her lack of knowledge regarding her employers and their ways. If she could get through with simply the politeness and her own brains, then she could graduate beyond this place and maybe get her own lab, maybe get her own research grant. "Sir, I have some wonderful news regarding the behaviour analysis studies."

So great, she'd brought sample compounds with her. You couldn't knock the smile off her face if you tried.

GENERAL STONE:
General Stone smiled and gestured to a comfortable chair opposite his desk as he sat in his own, oversized leather chair. "Good to hear Dr Price! Excellent, why don't you have a seat and you can explain to me exactly what it is you have found out."

What he actually meant was - You had better have found something decent out or else I'll find someone else smarter, quicker and cheaper than you. - But the good Doctor didn't need to hear that so instead he just put on that charming, grand-fatherly smile of his and steepled his fingers. Resisting the urge for her to hand over a file and a tangible product so he could put things in for testing immediately. "Please tell me it's good news."

DR PRICE:
Taking the seat, careful to position her case by her feet, Price smiled broadly at the General. "Well, I've managed to isolate and reconstruct specific traits within the compound to mimic the pheromone levels and behavioural modifications seen in the speices of specimen used." She didn't want to go into too much scientific detail, she wasn't sure how condescending she'd come across trying to explain it, and she definitely didn't want the General to think she thought he was stupid. Not at all.

"Early tests conclude it's effectiveness on the rodents. Metabolism is quick but the effects last for up to five days in the smaller animals. There is no detection in blood or organ tests." She'd been so excited, there it all was on paper, her results, her breakthrough. Her success. That was what she was looking for. "It's my opinion that the compound is safe and ready for field testing sir."

The mutants of the compound, she knew they were the test subjects, but Price was a scientist, and what was science without the participation of subjects; unknowing as they may be. She knew her compound was safe. She wasn't endangering anyone and it was all in the name of science.

GENERAL STONE:
Those were the only four little words he needed to hear; ready for field testing. Anything else really didn’t matter in the scheme of things, heck the mutants could all die and it wouldn’t spoil the Generals day. Sure there would be an investigation and a hell of a lot of paperwork but he was pretty confident that Sykes would handle that and anyway... what were a few less mutants in the world?

“How soon can you put a test into place Dr Price?” The General leant back in his chair watching the scientist as she sat there. He was well aware that she was considered a genius and specialist in her field but that still didn’t mean anything to Stone. She was a lady and as far as he was concerned her rightful place was in the home, doting on the needs of her man. Not that he’s be foolish enough to ever verbalise his thoughts, not with the Equal Rights crap that got banded about. Oh no. Instead he’d just smile and nod whilst waiting for the results.

“Obviously the outcome of your study will determine your future prospects Dr Price, so I’m sure I don’t have to remind you or even point out the importance of his experiment being kept confidential.”

DR PRICE:
"Imediately, sir." Which was a thrill all on it's own. Price was a woman of science, her discipline was science, her life was science, her love was science. She didn't care if others thought her incompetent, her history spoke for itself. This right here, this little case with the administering gasses, they spoke volumes for her ability. Everything else was moot.

"Naturally, sir. Utter confidentiality is part of the clause, and I am fully aware and prepared to manage it as such." Her own colleagues weren't even privy to what the hell she was working on. Only that she was vigilant about who was around her and she barely left the lab for anything. Price was nothing if not dedicated.

"I estimate a range of six hundred yards effectiveness. Ideally, the place on inception would be the air system within the housing dorms. It's most likely to facilitate a full spread inhilation and absorption." Price had done all the calculations. She knew what she was doing, because General Stone was right; the outcome would determine her future, and she wanted it to reflect positively on her career.

GENERAL STONE:
"You can administer it either in the morning or prior to lock down. That way any issues can be dealt with without raising alarm to anyone else within Fort Wenachee. Jefferson Hall and Lincoln Dorm are where you'll find the mutants, cctv is already in place as well so I can provide you with full system observations." The General would be pleased to present his findings - oh yes, they are his findings - to the board and allow them to see just how useful this team of mutants could possibly be. What Stryker had started was nothing in comparison as to what the General had planned.

"I'm giving you twenty-four hours from now to put everything into place ready for a test then Dr Price." The General was contemplating whether to have Sykes off site at the time or whether to include him in on the tests. Keeping him out of the loop allowed for minimum potential interference as undoubtedly the Captain would have some objections, especially seeing as he was a mutant as well. Shame. He was such a nice young man too.

DR PRICE:
That was amazing. Her own observation equipment to detail everything, and she did mean everything. Price was the type to keep a detailed record of her every scientific movement and this would be so much of an advancement on her records. "That's more than enough time, sir." She was sure she'd be sitting there in a few hours time, counting down until the lock down and she could commence the experiment.

Price didn't have the moral objections to using unknowning subjects. The less they knew the more raw the reactions and the better things turned out for her. If they were mutant or human, it didn't matter to her, science knew no judgement. Everyone would react the same to her compound and if they were huamn, well, it would just be a rather odd few days for them.

"I look forward to giving you my report, sir."

GENERAL STONE:
"Good. Now I'm sure you have plenty to be getting along with Doctor. I expect updates every twelve hours and should any major issues arise. Now, if you'll excuse me I have another meeting to attend." Buzzing for his PA the General stood, nodding at the Doctor and waiting for Catherine to come in and assist in seeing the Doctor out. He really didn't have another meeting to attend, he just wanted to get in contact with the board and let them know that the first set of tests were due to begin. Hopefully these experiments would yield the results he was looking for.

DR PRICE:
Following the PA from the room, Price ran through everything she needed to attend to before heading towards the living quarters. She'd need to administer the compound into both air systems at the exact same time, which meant the next few hours were spent creating a device that would release the compound from the canister into the air duct at the touch of a button. Afterwards, Price made her way to the room where she would observe the release of the gas and then where she would remain during the experiment.

Everything would start on Tuesday morning, right on schedule. And Price did so like having everything on time.
