I'd say yes. My grad school career resources person said this is the best way to showcase your talents. I actually have, like, three different resumes for different types of positions.
1.) Counseling (which I got my MA in) showcases my work with clients and my related experiences, plus trainings I've gone to.
2.) "Research"/Program Managing shows more in this area, such as big research projects or programs I've worked in and specifics like budgeting, etc. This still has my counseling experience but it's down the page under "Counseling"
3.) Teaching resume contains more of my practical teaching experience that I really don't put on my other resumes.
Which I do with each of these is with each job, I looks at the qualifications and duties required and actually edit the resume I'm using so those things I have done come up first. This shows them that you have experience specifically in that area. I even try to use a lot of the same language as they do.
And ALWAYS send in a cover letter as well, even if they don't particularly ask for it. It shows initiative and explains more about why you are best for the job. I actually bulletpoint specific experience in the area in the letter too.
