Summary: Heero's been hiding since Relena was sent home, Quatre bugs him about it.
Heero was sitting in Zero. He'd finished working on his latest set of diagnostics and scans. He was debating what to do next as he sat there.
There was some beeping from the inner-Gundam communication system.
Heero glanced at the comm, wondering who was online now. He flipped a switch to turn it on before going back to his readouts.
Quatre leaned forward in Sandrock, looking at the screen. He smiled at Heero. "Hello."
"Hn." Heero nodded at the screen.
"What's wrong?"
Heero mentally sighed. "I think you know," he said, going back to his readouts.
"We'll never get to say goodbye."
"It's not just that." He bit his lip slightly, but his head was still turned from the screen.
"Talk to me."
This time, the Wing pilot sighed aloud. He didn't want to talk. He ran a few commands through the system. The comm shut down along with the Gundam's computer, and he stepped out on to the hatch. He turned to face Sandrock, waiting for Quatre to follow.
Quatre came out of Sandrock. He didn't say anything.
He sat down on the hatch, dangling his legs over the side. "I can't protect her from here," he said softly.
He sat down on his Gundam, legs crossed as he leaned forward. "I know."
He frowned, his eyes narrowing slightly. "And... she's not here..." he said, not sure how else to put it.
"You miss her."
"It's different this time."
He nodded.
"Before..." Before, he and Relena hadn't been a couple when he'd first arrived. That had developed here.
He waited patiently.
"It was just different."
"I understand." Quatre replied.
Heero looked at Quatre.
The blonde smiled faintly.
Heero shrugged slightly, looking down again.
"Heero. Lady Une will help her."
"I know that."
"Don't worry too much."
Heero gave him a deadpan look. "That's like asking you not to worry about Trowa."
He chuckled.
He sighed, leaning back a bit against the frame of the hatch opening.
Quatre slumped.
Heero closed his eyes.
"I'm sorry."
"For what?"
"Pushing you."
He shrugged. "I'm not a talker."
"I know."
"Hn." He stayed that way for a while, leaning against the Gundam as he sat on the hatch with his eyes closed and legs dangling over the side. Heero wasn't sure if there was anything that really could be done to change how he felt right now. Not for a while, yet. Still... "Thanks, though," he said.
He smiled warmly.
