and i *finally* get around to cooking that vegan pot-pie i spoke of last february. it wasn't quite as exciting as i'd anticipated, but oh i have a huge amount of veggies to keep me warm this winter

Nice. Pot pies are fun. For more flavour, hit the seasoning cabinet. So what did you make the well... "creamy" part out of? That's pretty intriguing, vegan pot pie deliciousness. I like the hole, its like doughnuts or something. Personality!
:-) Thanks! This was my very first homemade pot pie, so i decided not to experiment with seasoning this time, but i definitely will if i do one again later.
The "creamy" part was very simple - water, soy sauce, and cornstarch. I used over twice the amount of cornstarch in the recipe before it thickened to the amount i was happy with.
I used those pie crusts that you buy at the store & let them thaw out before trying to remove the one i was going to use for my top. part of it was stuck to the aluminum pan so fiercely, i had to ball it up as i pulled it out since it wouldn't just pull out straight.
as for the holes... yeah, about that... my plan was to make holes into a complete top, but i didn't even bother once i had all the pieces on with the large hole in the center.
oh, also i made a couple of minor changes to the recipe. i subbed in broccoli for the cauliflower. i also had to use about 2.5 times more the amount of cornstarch called for (and a tiny extra water/soy-sauce) to get the creamy part to thicken enough to my taste.

Did you flour the pan first (for pie crust lid)?
I guess question 2 is irrelevant (did you poke holes it it - but I think it did that on its own)
