Well, I got cheated out of a birthday snowstorm
in 2010, and had to teach on my birthday after it looking like I might get a snow day, but this year appears to be making up for it with a pre-birthday snowpocalypse (my birthday is on Sunday). As of around 10:00 this evening, my current institution of higher learning and Jesuits is closed tomorrow, which means that instead of a late night and an early morning writing a lecture about the second industrial revolution, I'm going to go to bed soon, and enjoy not getting up at 6:30 tomorrow morning. Frabjous day!
Of course, there's the small matter of the actual real live blizzard warning and possible 2+ feet/60+ centimetres of snow between now and Saturday afternoon, but I think at least it's supposed to be fluffy snow, and the hurricane-force winds are supposed to be south of here. I'm sure Swiss-style survivalist roommate A is prepared, and I've laid in a supply of milk, eggs, sour cream, popcorn, and reese's mini peanut butter cups for my baking/soup-cooking/snacking purposes. As long as we don't lose power for too long, I should be set.

In other news, I have been having draining but eye-opening conversations about teaching in the past couple of days with advisor R and boss JB. My mind is a little blown (it would appear I've been on the wrong side of some differences between Canadian and American educational cultures that I didn't even know existed). In addition, the issues with my teaching evaluations from last semester have now been officially diagnosed as coming from my issues with leading discussion, and not from my lectures as I feared. Advisor R has proclaimed that my lecturing is fine-to-great and that I should carry on, which is a major relief. She also suggests I use the generally positive comment sections of my evaluations in my teaching dossier, rather than the uneven numerical sections.
Also, I am going back to therapy for the anxiety issues, but never mind.
So, that's the latest, and now I'm going to delicious, delicious bed.
