I've been working veee-ry slowly all afternoon and evening on this fellowship application, and have finally gotten far enough along with it to see what's wrong. As I cannibalized my full-length dissertation proposal, I cut it down too much! Now I'm carefully and selectively restoring parts of my topic and significance section, enriched with selections from my chapter outline, and hoping it's going to be historiographical enough to fulfill the requirements for this particular application. Then I'm going to go and fix the application-specific section by starting with what my mini-spinoff project is going to be before I start in on the reason I need to go to the archives to accomplish it.
But the point here is that unless I develop a drastically new writing style, I think I need to arrange my life so that my daily writing goal is around a page. Any more than that seems to lead directly into procrastination and despair. Maybe once I'm on a roll I'll be able to manage two.
It might take me a while to write a dissertation.
