The next time I think God is smiting me, I'll have to remember this.
So, my roommate and I both went home for the weekend. This morning, she recieves a call from one of the other tennants that some people in our apartment building were robbed. She forwarded the call to me and we both rushed back in a state of panicked dread to find...everything untouched. That's right. Our first floor apartment, with nobody home went miraculously unscathed. In the meantime, everybody in the basement suite lost their laptops. Wow.
Also, in continuance of the weirdness, the other grad students kept complimenting me on my seminar talk all week long (the one I threw together in one night; the one I only knew about by sheer fluke).
I can't explain it. My life richochets between a state of Abandon hope all ye who enter and sporadic occurances of freakishly good luck. (Not good luck in that good things happen, but good luck in that I slip mysteriously past bad things that, according to universal law, should have sideswiped me).
In the meantime, I bought a pair of tiny wooden elephants at the flea market and a necklace. I shall consider this a win.
