What's up with that Kasich guy?
Out of nowhere, in comes Kasich. He ended up 2nd in New Hampshire in the GOP primary, and I was like, "John-Who?" But then again, I'm something of an outsider to US home politics, granted. So I'd appreciate some education here.
Some have called him the "Anti-Trump". As in, the guy who talks in positive terms, sounds optimistic, looks to a brighter future, and seems to believe the worst is behind America's back. He also appears to have quite a diverse backing among an array of segments of the electorate, which promises good prospects, and shows some potential for growth of his campaign - if he plays his cards well, that is. Because the race is only just beginning.
I'm guessing all he has to do right now is to keep himself in the race long enough in wait of an imminent Trump campaign implosion. One can only hope. It's more important for Kasich to keep scoring higher than the other secondary contenders for the time being, and watch them fall off board one after another (Christie being the latest drop-out). After all, while one-trick ponies like Cruz and Trump may be impressive with the intensity of their message, and they may inspire their base well (to the point where they could metaphorically stand in 5th Avenue and shoot somebody, and still retain that support) - but there's a limit to that, come the general election. Rubio migth've had the potential to tap into that potential, had he not been such a stale walking talking teleprompter (for which he was duly called out by some of his rivals).
So what about Kasich? Could he turn out to be a meaningful challenger to The Donald? Or is the result of a single primary just too premature to base predictions upon?
