YAY Vividcon

I'm officially in! I wasn't all that worried about making it in since I was #1 on the waitlist, but it's good to know for sure. I signed up for a Club Vivid song, so hopefully this will be the year I see a vid of mine premiere at Vividcon. *boogies* If I have time, I might even try to squeeze out a Premiere vid, but I'm not going to stress about it ( Read more... )

Oh? I would think that exporting directly from the VOB file would get you the shiniest end product. Is that not true, then?
Well, you would, wouldn't you... and it kinda is. Except I only know one method of exporting with them and while it's worked ok until now, it's kinda clunky in terms of aspect ratio and the black bars top and bottom. And it makes a nice small file but the quality could maybe be better? There are probably ways around this that I just don't know, but I found a tutorial for this method and it's so far looking very very shiny.

First I go through in VirtualDubMod and clip around the sections that I'm sure I'll need, and then I'll clip again once I'm in the editing program.
Mmm, that's what I find I'm doing now. One of my anxieties about this new method is that I'm not really sure how clips will look until I try it, so I may spend a lot of time clipping stuff I don't end up using. *bites nails* Not sure! So far I've sifted three seasons and am working with that to do what I can and at least get a vague feel of whether the vid concept is 'pinging' right or not.

Yeah, that's a real possibility. There's tons of stuff I clip that I never end up using. But my philosophy is better too much than too little.

See, I couldn't do that because once I start editing, I never want to go back to clipping. I would just end up making a vid with only those 3 seasons. Which is kinda what happened with "Tango". I started clipping seasons 6 and 7, got distracted by all of the pretty footage, and wanted to start editing right away. I never did get around to clipping the other seasons as I had initially intended to do. :)

Hee! Well it wasn't a bad thing for Tango...

In this case I'm (reasonably) safe because there's some really specific imagery I need later on that I must retrieve. But I do know what you mean. Editing is waaaaay more fun, and since I'm used to breaking up the monotony, I'm finding the clipping hard work. But on the other hand, I've found some stuff I think could be really good if I can work it right. I think my main thing is I'm insecure with a vid until I've laid down a bar or two that I really like and so can reassure myself that it IS going to work in some form. But anyway, I've sort of done that now. And vidding Lex is LOTS of fun. Although already the vid is morphing into something other than what I expected... I thought it would be (darkly) Clex-y in focus, but it's turning out to be very much about Lex and Lionel. Hmmm. I don't think this is a bad thing, I'm just not sure why I didn't realise it earlier.

Isn't it, though? I love Clark to little bits, but he's is nowhere near as expressive as Lex is.

Ah, yeah, I can see that happening. After all, Lionel is responsible for so much of the darkness in Lex.
