Once again went into quiet mode on here. I've been reading, but have not been writing reviews. I've been watching tv, but have not been writing reviews. I've been social, but have not been blogging about it.
I did see a fantastic NYC production of OTHELLO over last weekend, presented by the New York Shakespeare Exchange on West 26th. It closes this weekend, so there's still a few more performances to catch if you're in NYC. My friend Dave Lapkin is in it as Ludovico. The leads (Othello, Iago, Desdemona, Emilia) are roundly terrific, as is the rest of the supporting cast. There was a cast change at the end of the first week ... for Othello! The actor who took over the part still had his script in his hands during the performance we saw, but he was so invested in the role that honestly the scriptbook faded from view after a while, and only registered as a prop most of the time. There were one or two moments where it was obvious he had the book in his hands, but they were small moments. His performance was engrossing.
