another book day

There's a used bookstore two blocks up from my hotel. I noticed it when I walked up to Radio Shack last night to buy a new power cord for the laptop. It looks shabby when you first walk in, and things are a bit scattered, but the staff is really nice. For about $20 I found:

S.M. Stirling's THE PROTECTOR'S WAR
Umberto Eco's THE NAME OF THE ROSE
Michael Knight's short story collection DOGFIGHT
Nevil Shute's classic ON THE BEACH
Kevin Anderson's LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN novelization
The original KING KONG novelization from 1932, in a 2005 reprint edition
H. Rider Haggard's SHE AND ALLAN (1978 papberback)
Edgar Rice Burroughs' BACK TO THE STONE AGE: A Castaway in Pellucidar (ACE paperback edition from...?)
Two John Gardner James Bond books: SCORPIUS and DEATH IS FOREVER
T. A. Barron's THE SEVEN SONGS OF MERLIN
Carla Jablonski's novelization of THE BOOKS OF MAGIC: THE INVITATION, adapting the Neil Gaiman/John Bolton comic
Anthony Rapp's memoir WITHOUT YOU
Neil Simon's memoir REWRITES
and two Doc Savage paperback reprints from 1969/70: THE TERROR IN THE NAVY and THE YELLOW CLOUD.

This has been quite the trip for books! And there's quite a lot of Wold-Newton-related goodness in this particular batch.

EDIT TO ADD: In the interests of a complete list of my book-buying adventures, I should also note that I hit a couple of regular Barnes & Nobles over the past two weeks, using my gift card to pick up:

Christopher Golden's WAKING NIGHTMARES (the fifth Peter Octavian book)
Catherynne M. Valente ( yuki_onna )'s DEATHLESS
Carrie Vaughn's AFTER THE GOLDEN AGE
and the steampunk-themed anthology EXTRAORDINARY ENGINES, which includes stories by jaylake and others

And a hotel "take books and drop them at other hotels" program netted me POOR BUTTERFLY, one of Stuart M. Kaminsky's Toby Peters mysteries (a series I had nearly all of years ago, but lost in the move from Roanoke), and John Gardner's  JASON AND MEDEIA.

I am hoping to pick up the ellen_datlow edited anthology TEETH, which came out this week I think, and which features a story by mroctober among others.

merlin, peter octavian, tim hunter, wold-newton, james bond, jay lake, doc savage, loeg, allan quartermain
