Had another great weekend in Palmdale visiting with Michelle and BJ. We watched Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One together, took BJ to get his picture with EB (the Easter Bunny) taken. He also had gift certificates to Build-A-Bear so we took him there. Hit another used bookstore along the way and just enjoyed our time together. Around 6 on Sunday I headed to LAX to come home.
Needless to say, I didn't sleep on the plane (I don't think I'd ever really convinced myself I'd be able to, since I never seem to, but I did make honest attempts, several times, to shut my brain off). So I finished reading SHERLOCK HOLMES: FACT OR FICTION, then also read DOC SAVAGE: THE TERROR IN THE NAVY and THE BOOKS OF MAGIC #1: THE INVITATION. All light stuff that I wouldn't be too annoyed if I fell asleep mid-paragraph (not that I did). I think it worth noting that all three were "used bookstore purchases" from this trip.
I did go ahead and sleep a bit when I got home Monday morning, then went out and picked up this week's rental car and ran errands, including picking up the accumulated mail, which included the Merlin 2011 calender I ordered from the UK; two autographed graphic novels from Chip Skelton (BROKEN book one and TERRAN SANDZ book one); a box o' comics from my buddy Dave, including the black & white trade paperback collections of Marvel and DC's John Carter of Mars stories; my old friend EJ Flynn's debut novel PERSPECTIVES OF THE HEART; MORE TALES OF ZORRO, which includes a story by
woldnewton_win ; HISTORICAL LOVECRAFT, which includes stories by Aaron Polson and
graygirl , and of course the usual pile of bills and magazines.
OH! To complete my list of books purchased / accumulated during the trip, I need to mention that Michelle gave me THE FALLEN BOOK TWO. Last trip out she gave me THE FALLEN BOOK ONE. She knows I'm a Remy Chandler fan and really wants me to read Thomas Sniegoski's other angel-based series. I also purchased WATER FOR ELEPHANTS to read for my company book club.
In amongst the errand running yesterday, I also went and got a haircut and then visited my local Borders, where I was finally able to find a copy of the
ellen_datlow and Terri Windling anthology TEETH, which includes vampire tales by
officialgaiman ,
mroctober ,
yuki_onna and many others. Looking forward to getting this one autographed on June 11 in NYC!
