That's to say, she is in juvenile detention once again.
We met with the court appointed council, who walked us through the charges (probation violation - being caught out after curfew, malicious use of a telecommunications service, receiving and concealing stolen property, and possession of a weapon on school grounds - pocket knife). The curfew incident I was only just made aware of at the meeting, but apparently happened a few days prior. The attorney explained to us that the charges could carry up to a combined fourteen months in a detention center. But, he also said that Tasha could offer a plea bargain for a lesser sentence, and for her cooperation in entering a troubled teens program. So, she plead guilty to the rec/con of stolen property and the weapons charges, and had the telecommunications charge dropped in exchange.
She'll be in the juvenile detention center for up to two weeks, while they do evaluations and prepare to process her for the JTI program, where she will then stay for, I believe, several months.
The upside to taking this route is that she will undergo some more in depth psych evaluations. It's something that Tasha's grandpa and I have talked about before, but couldn't get the cooperation from Pine Rest to have her admitted for evaluation (she wasn't considered to be a threat to herself or others, despite the fact that she had a recent history of cutting, not to mention that she tried choking Christopher on a few occasions). That's more than just a little teenage rage going on. I wonder if she may be bi-polar even. She's often moody, and I mean hair-trigger moody. And she can turn violent in a second. About a month ago, Tasha snapped at Justice and threw a couch pillow in her face over a misplaced necklace. Her behavior just keeps getting worse, more sporadically violent. She seriously needs some intervention before things really get out of hand.
*sigh* So, like I said. It's not the best outcome. It's never the best outcome when your child ends up being incarcerated. At the same time, this is best thing for her.
family,
