this is an entry i posted on myspace a few days ago, so i'll share it here now:
So, here it is. Another year, another quarter spent here at UC. But before moving on to 2007, let's recap just how great 2006 was. I spent a lot of time with a beautiful girl, Julie, who later became my girlfriend, then my roommate, and now, for those of you who don't know, my fiance. Things between us have been fantastic, and I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with her.
School was ok in '06. Just trying to get by. I didn't do as well as I would have liked last quarter, but I'm going to bust my ass this quarter and try to make up for it. I'm shooting for a 4.0, but I have a feeling that's unrealistic, so I'll settle for a 3.5. I also moved out of my dad's (to an apartment with Julie), and things have been much better. I'm no longer bored or lonely 99% of the time. There's almost always someone at home with me, whereas at dad's, even though we lived together, we only saw each other once or twice a week.
Anyway, that was a very short recap of 2006. All in all, it was a good year. It ended on a terrific note (the engagement on Christmas Eve), and I hope that 2007 is half as good as the past year has been.
Now, to the future. Classes started again yesterday, and thus far they look promising. Not too many big projects that I know of, so all I need to do is keep up on reading and homework and stuff and I should be good. My classes this quarter are:
US National Security Policy (284)
Political Inquiry: Methods (254)
Progressivism in Political Theory (340)
and Astronomy: Earth and Moon (123)
National Security should be rather interesting, so that'll help keep my attention and I should do well. Political Inquiry looks basically like a statistical analysis class, and for those of you who know me, I've always been fairly good at math, so that'll be easy. I may need to dust of the old Probability and Statistics book from my freshman year to refresh my memory on a few things, but overall it shouldn't be too hard. I haven't had the other two classes, but from the syllabus, Progressivism doesn't look too bad. No projects, just quite a bit of reading and two exams. As long as I go and pay attention and read I'll do fine. And Astronomy?? It's a 100 level class, so it should be easy. Plus it's interesting, so I'll be fine.
Well, that was a bit longer than intended, but oh well. Hope you all had a good 2006, and hopefully you have an even better 2007.
and now for the new stuff.
so....i know i haven't been very sociable lately, but there's some good reasons. classes started again last week and i've been trying to keep up with the readings and even get a bit ahead. also, my grandma (on my dad's side) had been pretty sick for the last couple months or so. i don't really talk about it because there's not much to say. we weren't too terribly close. we saw each other on holidays and maybe three or four other times a year. anyway, she passed away early monday morning. i had been up at the nursing home quite a few times the week leading up to. i'm ok, i guess. at least i will be. i've been trying not to think about it too much. i'm ok with the way things ended up, so i have no regrets. there's a lot more to the story and the reason our relationship wasn't as close as it could have been, and maybe one day i'll talk about it, but not now. so...the visitation is thursday night, and the funeral/mass and all that jazz is friday morning, so i won't be going to class or work friday. i need to get out and do something friday night so i don't sit at home tormenting my brain with thoughts of what happened and everything. julie is going out with a friend friday night, so i'm open and up for anything.
well, i'm going to get off here and clean and work on homework before i have to pick julie up from class.
later.
