Hawk is traditionally applied to all diurnal raptors, birds of prey.
"Hawks" or diurnal raptors come in three families: Accipitridae all species aside from the New World Vultures (Cathartidae) and the Falconidae The true falcons and Crested Caracaras. The term hawk is most often recognized as any diurnal (day hunting) raptor.
