The Big Guy

Today, Barack is in GR. While taking Joe to work, our direct route to the restaurant was festooned with police cars and news people. So, obviously, we were re-routed around the arena, but waiting at the stop light and seeing all the white news vans and their portable satellites, I couldn't help but clap my hands and say, "He's here! He's here!" Just like a kid on Christmas, "He's Here!!!"

I've really never been one for politics, you know...because they're just the 'lesser of two evils.' I cannot help but to feel so drawn to him, I admire him, Obama. He speaks so eloquently, but firmly...how, after our last president could anyone not understand that affluent Americans want someone that they can relate to and respect?

I must admit, I have not been proud of my country in the last 7 years. I think the last time I was proud of the country, was just after 9/11 when the planes were still not flying, and the entire country was nice to each other for a few days. But then after the grief and shock everyone just got pissed, and they said the most horrible crap I have ever heard, "Pave Iraq! Make a parking lot out of those sand n******!" It was enough times to make me want to vomit. "Iraq? What the hell does Iraq have to do with Osama bin Laden and our 'Attack'?" I wondered. But...since then, the most recent installment of Republican rule has been nothing but war mongering, ridiculous and irresponsible spending, bad speeches and calculatingly removing rights and freedoms from the American people. The last of which, I cannot even muster the words to describe how angry that makes me. People are no naive. But politicians so sneaky. "Let's call it the 'Patriot act," they say, "who would go against a 'Patriot Act'?"

The Patriot Act which allows:

...authorization of indefinite detentions of immigrants; searches through which law enforcement officers search a home or business without the owner’s or the occupant’s permission or knowledge; the expanded use of National Security Letters, which allows the FBI to search telephone, email and financial records without a court order; and the expanded access of law enforcement agencies to business records, including library and financial records.

HIGHLY UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

But I could go on for hours...The way Barack Obama talks about national safety makes me feel as though he truly understands the world, and the way the US is viewed in it. By improving the world opinion of the US, the United States will be safer. By taking care of our own people, and allowing us to pursue our goals, by requiring healthcare for all children (Like Michigan does for all pregnant mothers...) by researching new ways to power our country, by alleviating the working class moreso than his opponent from taxes by 5.2%, we can turn the economy around. By giving college students tuition breaks by going out and supporting community efforts, more kids will be able to go to school. WHY DON'T MORE PEOPLE SEE THIS?! This will work!

I highly regret moving to a city as highly Republican as Grand Rapids. I work with women from the Sparta area, and my God, they are the most stubborn group of people I have ever met. People base their vote on Abortion, Roe V. Wade, the supreme court ruling that defines "a mother may abort her pregnancy for any reason, up until the "point at which the fetus becomes ‘viable.’" The Court defined viable as being potentially able to live outside the mother's womb, albeit with artificial aid." NO ONE WILL EVER OVERTURN THAT! Who would take away the right of a woman to choose whether or not to be a mother? Even I, having had an abortion myself, have issues with abortion, like people using it as birth control...but no respectful servant of the public would outlaw this vital service. Then women would go back to coat hangers...suffering from perforated cervices, uterine infections and emergency room visits for internal bleeding because they hit themselves so hard they bled....and on and on and on. I can understand people feeling that abortion is murder, however, knowing that this MUST be an option, and knowing that that legislation will never be overturned, why would someone base their entire vote on that practice alone?

I recently donated $30 towards the Obama campaign, because I felt that it was my moral duty to assist him in reaching the Oval Office. McCain is a terrifying candidate, his temper, his demeanor and shameful campaign tactics frighten me, so, I donated $30 to Obama.....and my last paycheck at the salon was $56 for two weeks. So, take that for what it's worth. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am an excellent judge of character, I think things through COMPLETELY...and never am one for jumping on a bandwagon. If McCain is elected into the presidency, this country will suffer greatly.

For anyone still considering McCain, I highly suggest watching this video, where he requests "these young people that are in this crowd, my friends, I'm going to be asking you to serve..."
