Well, Joe and I have a new home! We applied and got approved for our first apartment together at Oakview Apartments in Grand Rapids. We have our address and just need to sign the lease and get the keys! We are moving January 30th, as Joe starts his new job February 1st. My schedule for February is a lot of commuting from Grand Blanc to Grand Rapids, so that I can see clients in Grand Blanc and find my new job out there on the weekends.
I almost cried when we got a call this afternoon that we'd gotten it. The pictures on the internet really don't do it justice. It's a really cute building with only 4 apartments per unit, the kitchen is AWESOME. It's got a gas stove which is great for the chef and lots of cupboard space, the fridge is Andrea-Friendly and shorter so I can get to the cabinets above it. The bedroom is GIGANTIC!!!!!!!! It's about the size of my bedroom now, only with 2 closets, one on either side of the room, so it's more open (whereas mine has a walk in that takes up a decent chunk of space.)
I can SEE our stuff there. When we got back to Lansing, we made a list of all the things we each have to bring to the new place. We've got a few things yet to get, and it's obviously a hodge-podge of belongings, but it's going to be so wonderful. I can't even tell you all how happy and excited I am.
We went and ate at the restaurant for dinner on Monday after apartment hunting all day long. The food was good, but left some things to be desired...Joe's gonna tighten up that ship for sure. As we were looking at places, it wasn't hard to drop a few off right away. The last place wound up being the winner, but it was an easy choice. Close to downtown, but not TOO close, decent parking and outside lighting, gas stove and a stacked washer and dryer on each floor (meaning we only share it with our neighbors across the hall.) We have FIVE closets! FIVE!!!!! What more could a girl ask for?
We are both so excited to be living together. Just thinking about it puts a huge smile on my face. Even though Joe will be working 60-80 hours a week, it'll all be so worth it. I can't wait to find a job out there. I'm hoping for a massage therapy job, but I'm okay with taking something for now and to keep looking for openings in the area. My car is kaput, but we're going to get her going before we move, and eventually Joe and I are going to get a 'new to us' car. All the finances are in order, just have a list of "things to do" and "stuff to get." It's not a long list, just things like a broom and vacuum cleaner bags, a bookcase, and some extra bed linens. Random stuff that you don't think about needing until you need it, lol. I've been trying to think of everything. Next up is renter's insurance and getting the electricity and gas in my name.
Does anyone have any extra boxes laying around? We need them desperately. :P
If you'd like our new address, just drop me an e-mail or a phone call and I'd be happy to give it to you.
Love,
Andrea
