06:24 Moonday 09 August 2021
I woke around 03:30 and went back to sleep. I-79 is quieter Sunday nights.
Now I need to get up and pack my stuff; take down my tent. It's cool now; it will be hot later.
Moonday 06:37
Anna is up.
There's heavy dew outside. Where is the 3rd tarp I bought on the way here? I need it to keep everything I take out of the tent dry. The things that need to go in the car first are coming out of the tent last, and the tent itself. And the bottom of the tent should have some time to dry in the sun before the tent is packed.
[The last tarp was in the car.]
Moonday 14:30
We weren't quite off the site by the noon deadline, but there were many other camps still packing up when we left.
We're meeting at the nearby McDonald's. Food. (The kitchen was packed last night. My remaining Pop-Tarts helped out this morning.) Air conditioning. (It was hot this morning after the sun cleared the trees to the east.) Running water. (We miss that when the sink and hoses are packed.)
People mentioned that I was around camp more this year because I wasn't gone all day every day for classes (and rehearsals).
Before we left McD's and went our separate ways*, Anna reminded us of "the elephant in the room" - Cat's absence. This was the first time we've been together since
her funeral. This - Armistice - wasn't really the right setting. This wasn't Pennsic. And there were new people at Armistice who didn't know Cat. And the people who knew her weren't all here - Scott's work schedule wouldn't let him shift is vacation for Amistice (which started and ended earlier than Pennsic would have), and Daphne (
eftychia) and Colleen were concerned about the Covid Delta variant circulating.
Ironic: Cat made the difficult choice of skipping Pennsic 2019 so she could use her vacation time to meet her boyfriend's family.
*My separate way - I was the only one who wasn't heading to West Virginia. Ashley+Gary+4 had already left for Ohio. Sven might have joined us before leaving for Connecticut, but was diverted by someone else who hadn't left yet.
