It sucks that I haven't had time to post in the last 3 months. But in 4 days I'll be done with the 2 classes I'm taking and I'll be so glad to have my free time back! Just in time for my 31st birthday, too, which is on Friday.
I had a dental assistant ask me the other day something like how traumatizing it was to have turned 30 since she was turning 30 soon. That question always amuses and irks me. I never had that vanity I guess. I'd rather be 67 and retired already. Sure everything will be taken over by gravity and probably a lot of things will hurt, but I never got by on my youth nor had good looks to rely on (actually the youth part held me back in several occasions) so I've always liked the idea of getting older.
I do like to pick at people who do have that vanity. One of the people I work with is turning 30 in June and I've started poking fun at him about it. It amuses me how much people act like it's the end of the world instead of the best part of their lives. :)
Time for me to get back to the grind. Here's something to amuse you which I read in my sociology textbook right before I decided to make a journal entry:In other nations, abuses of state authority are far more common. The power of rulers is unchecked by other political institutions, and although citizens may question the legitimacy of their rule, they are powerless to prevent the rulers' use of coercion in violation of their rights. Such states are often ruled by demagogues, or leaders who use personal charisma and political symbols to manipulate public opinion. Demagogues appeal to fears of citizens and essentially trick them into giving up their rights of political participation. Hitler's ability to sway the suffering German masses made him the outstanding example of demagoguery in the twentieth century.
