Fairy Tail
I've started getting into an anime called Fairy Tail and I'm really enjoying it. It's a silly anime that doesn't take itself too seriously about a wizards guild the magical kingdom of Fiore called Fairy Tail, who are known for their impressive wizards and their unfortunate habit of creating massive collateral damage. It's really funny and light-hearted.
The main characters are all really fun and generally the main criterion to join the guild seems to involve being really powerful but also a little crazy and very individualistic, so all the characters are a little nuts in odd ways. From Natsu, the dragon slayer fire mage, who has severe motion sickness and a tendency to attack all his problems head on, to Ezra, a graceful sword-toting female warrior with the emotional subtlety of a tank, who everyone is terrified of, to Grey, the ice mage who always seems to lose his clothes. It makes for a lot of fun. Plus the nature of the guilds, where the wizards take on missions from the local populace, means they have a fun excuse to embark on crazy adventures.
This anime uses lots of static backgrounds, that interfere a bit with the story flow, but it's more than made up for by the excellent narration and they way they cut through scenes to keep the story moving and uncomplicated. Such, such a guilty pleasure :)
I found the anime through someone's top 10 list of epic anime songs, so I'll leave you with Dragon Force, which hasn't yet cropped up in the anime, which is deservedly epic.
