the-devils-see He could never admit that he was watching her. Watching her more often then he would like to even admit to himself. He ran on little sleep, kept himself around the vicinity of her home, and made camp in the tree outside of her bedroom window. Of course, if she was aware of, he would be seen as a creep and a stalker. But there was just something about this girl… something he couldn’t put into words or even explain. Yeah, he was attracted to her, but even then, that didn’t make any sense. He didn’t have time for love and dates and well, neither did she. But Jason Todd had this thing for Naoto Fuyumine that he couldn’t shake.
And that’s why he was outside of her window, messing with the notches to let himself in. Other times, he would just watch her dream and not even invade when the dreams would turn into nightmares for her. Jason would only press closer just to watch, make sure she was all right. The evil memories would fade and she would rest easy. But this night was different than all the rest. She wasn’t waking up, she wasn’t recovering, and she needed help.
And it was a vigilante’s job to help those in need.
With a simple click, the window was open. Silently, Jason slipped inside Naoto’s room, his eyes ever leaving her face. At times, he would wonder what she dreamed about. Everything seemed far less than pretty and happy. The way her face looked and her mouth would open for soundless screams and the tears streaming down her face… the male almost couldn’t take it. Goddamn this feeling. It didn’t make any sense!
Slowly he approached Naoto’s bed side, soon sitting on the edge of the bed. He could only look at her closer now, the emotions all her face mirrored despair and hurt. It was the same dream of the past again, running for her life, being cut down and bleeding out; no one to save her. She could have to continually watch her younger self go through this over and over again without being able to help. Her mind was her own personal torture chamber. He would see this every once and again on the nights Naoto’s actually decided to sleep. But he could relate. He knew the feelings associated with how she looked and he identified with it. Not that his past was all sunshine and rainbows. He assumed the same was for her especially with that scar that fell in between her breasts. If Naoto ever found out that Jason knew about it, well he’d have his ass kicked by her, which he probably wouldn’t mind all that much.
Carefully, Jason touched the side of her face, gently wiping away the fallen tears that left her closed eyes with the side of his thumb. She was somewhere he couldn’t reach but he wanted to help her, comfort her. But Jason reached out to her, that hand in the darkness she wished to reach for and he hadn’t realized it. Her face released some of the tension it had been holding.
A hand appeared out of no where to her younger self and Naoto watched as she took it. The person behind it was unknown, but she knew it wasn’t Fuyumine. The older woman looked around for some sort of answer as to who it might have been, but there was nothing.
Outwardly, the tears just flowed. Someone had saved her. All that was left were the emotions of hope and happiness that might have been at the end of the tunnel. Before he realized it, Jason laid next to her, running his hand through her hair idly. And before he could stop himself, he placed a kiss on her forehead. He reached her somehow. A small triumphant smile rose to his face, but soon faded. Naoto would never know about this and if she did, the female would hate him. She hated when orders were barked at her and when someone came to her rescue. He did the latter and for a second he wished that she was like most females, damsels in distress. If she got in trouble, a thousand times over, he would go to her, find her, rescue her, comfort her as many times as it took for her to understand that he was there for her.
That wasn’t reality. Naoto was too independent to have someone by her side and Jason had a city in constantly need of saving.
Neither of them would have made time for each other.
As least he could hope and dream.
And Naoto let him do that when she woke up and shut the door to her room. He would never hear her word of thanks. If he wanted his ass kicked by her, then he knew he could find her at the dojo when he decided to stop sleeping.
