Of course they practiced. He didn’t mean to look down upon her, but considering their height difference, he kind of had to. And it didn’t help that she couldn’t remember how to put on a bra, so most days unless that Yuki girl helped her, she went without one. Thankfully, he had been able to “cope” with the predicament and keep his eyes elsewhere.
So when it came time for the real thing, a real battle, Sulu knew Kallen was nothing less than prepared. He had taught her everything and her continued victories proved that she was a good learner.
Really, being around the teenager was… different, light, refreshing even. He didn’t seem to mind hat she kept secrets because after all, who’s not to say that he didn’t have a couple of his own. Their relationship was professional, but also on a personal level. Personal enough that he opened up to her a bit and she had done the same. But when it came down to fighting, there were no times for jokes…
…Until now.
Hikaru had been in one of his good moods. Teasing Kallen came almost like second nature to him. She would never take it personally, a shove here and there in a gesture. But this one time had been different.
Another student had declared a battle and Kallen turned to Sulu in order to draw the weapon. It had to be drawn from his chest, but…
“Can you reach?”
Cerulean eyes glared up at him. It was obvious that she couldn’t and this wasn’t the time for goofing off. But the male wasn’t moving…
Well at least not of his own will.
It took less than a half of a second for Sulu’s scenery to change from auburn and blue to blue and white. He was pretty sure his head hit the ground and his back was flat against the concrete.
“Um, okay. That hurt.”
Kallen knelt down over his body, placed a hand on his chest, and drew the fencing foil from him.
“You’ll be in a lot more pain later, trust me.”
And… he was pretty sure she didn’t mean the battle.
“Shit.”
