Summary: Raphael words of saying that Lucifer may have revive hum stuck with Castiel. It isn't until long that he realizes that his interests and Lucifer's overlap. Author's Note: I know there's a tense switch, but I don't know, it sounded appropriate to keep it? Usually when I notice that, I change it. But this time, I felt it was best to leave it alone.
"Did it ever occur to you that maybe... Lucifer raised you?"
After that scene, that question is the only thing that rings through Castiel’s head.
Castiel found out through Raphael that God is dead. Of course he doesn’t want to believe it. So that’s why he’s taken up faith in Dean, that God jumped ship and doesn’t give a damn about what’s going on. That leaves the portal open that God is out there somewhere and that gives him the mission of bringing God back.
Lucifer wants to bring God back too, but to make him pay. Of course, it’s not to fulfill the promise he gave to Nick, but because what happened to him was unfair. He couldn’t love these flawed creations the same, if not more, than God. That was asking for the impossible. Couldn’t he understand that? Why did He have Michael cast him into Hell? The crime didn’t fit the punishment. Lucifer hadn’t killed any of God’s perfect structures or damaged them in any way. But he was granted exiled from his home because he loved his Father more than anyone or anything. Wasn’t that supposed to be the true nature of a son?
Castiel would find God and Lucifer would interrogate Him for some answers. God was and still is his Father. Lucifer wouldn’t dare raise a hand to Him. Years, eons of just reveling in hate and he knew better than anyone else that he could never harm his Father. Lucifer still loved Him.
Lucifer, in heaven, had spent little time with his little brother. And he knew now that they overlapped each other in many ways. Perhaps, it was a good time to get to know each other better. They were brothers after all and maybe they could make a bond that should have happened many, many years ago. Both of them put their faith, their lives, and their trust in God only to have it ripped away from them.
When Castiel had finally given up his search for God, he appeared before Lucifer, kneeling down on one knee. He understood now, without it being said again, that Lucifer was the one who raised him to life once more. The oldest walked forward and cupped his brother’s cheek to raise his head. Lucifer didn’t have to say anything about reviving his brother and Castiel understood the words spoken in the silence. He didn’t even have to ask why.
“We will be together little brother. So stand. You need not serve me, just to stand with me.”
He brought himself to his feet and noticed Lucifer’s hand did not leave his face.
“Our Father… His life line still resonates within this beautiful Earth. We will find him and will find out answers and seek out what we’ve searched for.”
Castiel nodded and moved to stand at Lucifer’s side. His hand slipped from his sibling’s face. They walked together into the distance, determined in the mission they assigned themelves.
Father, Father, why have you forsaken me us?
