nubs who wanted Kallen & Loki & Gabriel hijinks. And
technicallysane wanted Gabriel to have cake... so he has cake.
Kallen was upset with Gabriel. ‘Mad’ would insist that he did something gravely wrong. ‘Upset’ meant she didn’t want to talk or be around him because of something he said or did. He did nothing to berate his character, it was just… Kallen wanted him to be honest with himself and with her. Gabriel’s point in existence was to trick and well, not be honest.
Loki was now in the woman’s care. He had no say in the handing over of ownership from Gabriel to Kallen. Loki liked Kallen, liked her a lot. She gave him food, had breasts he could nuzzle himself against (as long as Zachariah wasn’t watching), and his brother was here. Yeah, they got off to a rough start, but it was easy to see the ‘sibling’ air around them. But he kind of missed the cold petting Gabriel gave or how he swatted playfully at the male to annoy him. Loki wanted to see him, but Gabriel never came around. (Kallen wouldn’t let him out the room unless she would take him for a walk. She didn’t want a situation like the library to happen again. Not to mention, Gabriel was no where to be found during those times.) Were Gabriel and Kallen fighting? Such is the question of a child.
One thing Loki didn’t like (Zachariah included) was Kallen being distracted. Something was bothering her. His ‘parents’ were fighting weren’t they. Kallen wouldn’t speak of Gabriel and he hadn’t come around. And when the two did speak, Kallen’s tone when she spoke wasn’t the same. It was distant, disconnected. It was different from the light, funny, teasing air she used to carry with him. Something was wrong and well, it bothered Loki a little bit.
So when Kallen came back from the Defense Against Dark Arts class, Loki instantly welcomed her in long enough for her to put her teaching materials on the desk. But as soon as they touched the wooden surface, he dashed out the door.
“Wh-hey!” She instantly followed, closing the door behind her (so Zachariah couldn’t join him), and ran down the hall to follow him.
She knew running wasn’t permitted in the hallways, but if not catching up to him meant he would get hurt again, then screw the rules right now. Not to mention, him getting out and causing trouble would turn Kallen into a liar (as per her conversation with Jasper). But where the hell was he going? And for a small cat, he was fast. Kallen was glad she was in good health to keep up with him and not let Loki out of her sight. But he ran, turned corners, dashed down the hall, jumped up stairs…
“Loki! Stop!” After the third time, she realized that calling after the kitten wasn’t going to do her any good.
Ten minutes on this wild cat chase, Kallen found Loki led her into the… kitchen? All this just to say he was hungry? Really? Exasperated, she sighed. But the moment she entered the kitchen, she… lost sight of him. Kallen didn’t call after him because it wouldn’t work last time. Why would it work now? She walked forward, apologizing to the elves for her intrusion, and looked for Loki. One of the elves mentioned that he had seen something that looked like a cat go around the corner. She thanked him before catching her breath and moving on.
And there Loki was, pawing at the ground before a hand came down and he purred lightly. Yes, this is what he missed. Nothing could compare to Kallen’s warm touches, but sometimes, he wanted to switch it up a bit.
She followed the hand up and saw that it connected to… Gabriel. A conflicted look crossed her face as he continued to pet the cat. Maybe bringing her here would mean they could patch up things; they’d talk again or even better.
Kallen would be happy.
“Hey there kiddo. Miss me?” he said to Loki, lightly smiling as he continued to pet him. And beyond the small cat, there was Kallen, looking away. Standing up, he looked down at the plate he was holding, a slice of strawberry short cake.
“Cake?”
At his offer, Kallen turned her head to face him. But she shook her head ‘no’.
“It’s your favorite.”
How did he-How did he know that-She had only told Thobari-
“Ah well, your loss.” And those were his final words before digging in.
Just how did he know all these things about her? Her favorite sweet food… about Naoto? Gabriel not speaking up about them was off putting and made her feel uneasy. And because of that, Kallen started to walk away.
“Hey, you know the kid wouldn’t have brought you here without a reason. Both you and I know that,” he said, putting the plate and fork down.
He was right. Kallen had something to say but didn’t know how to say it. That’s why their conversations had been awkward, not like they used to be. Loki pawed at Gabriel once more before walking over to Kallen and looking up at her. She knelt down and picked him up.
“Gabriel, I wanted to say that I’m-”
“Ahhhh!”
“W-what?” Him doing that scared the crap out of Kallen.
“I already know what you’re going to say. You’re ‘sorry’ right. Why you gotta apologize for every little thing?”
She shrugged. The young woman never used to partake in such an act.
“Look, why don’t skip the apologizing bit and get down to business here, huh?”
Gabriel sat on the table and patted the spot next to him, signaling her to sit beside him. She looked around self-consciously before doing so. This… was improper wasn’t it? Kallen placed Loki on her lap and he rested there, quietly.
“Business?” Kallen questioned.
“You know, the “Gabriel knows too much about me”, “Gabriel isn’t honest with himself or me” and “Kallen doesn’t know how to talk about how she really feels.”
“But-”
“Trust me, I know these things. But first…”
“But first?”
“Cake?” Again he offered a slice to her. A different one from the one he was eating earlier. On the white plate was small sliver fork. She laughed lightly as she took the plate from Gabriel. To be honest, Kallen couldn’t resist a slice of strawberry short cake. After all, it was her favorite.
Loki meowed loudly at the sight of Gabriel and Kallen talking again. The little kitten was content with the outcome and he couldn’t possibly ask for more.
