Garage Sale
Had a garage sale Saturday that we spent all week in the garage, in the heat, surrounded by swarms of mosquitoes to do the prep for.
We started setting up for the actual sale at 6:30 -- before the sun had even risen -- and had people showing up at 6:45 when the ad we gave the paper said 8. It was a scramble to get everything out.
We managed to make $932 though which was fantastic because we were hoping to get enough to replace our old French doors. We've had a bunch of hurricanes blow through over the last 10 years, and the last one just sort of nailed the thing. It was pulled slightly askew. It closes, but the seal sucks so, when it rains, it gets into the house. :(
We're thinking about bringing some of the more valuable items left over to a consignment shop to sell.
The toys, all of which are in good condition, are being brought to Toys for Tots.
Cake Pans
Mom is destashing a bunch of her cake decorating things -- vintage, mint condition cake pans (almost all of them still have their original booklets and most still have the insert liners/pages that show what it looks like with icing), mini pans, some vintage cookie cutters, and vintage cake decorating books. All of them date from the 70s and 80s. Some of them are rare pans.
I'll be listing them on etsy next month (after Dad's surgery). Since it's a destash, I'll be listing them for a fair price rather than a jacked up, collector price.
If any of you are interested, please leave a comment, and I'll give you a heads up when they're posted.
Knitting Bonanza
I'm making knitted things for the family and friends this year. I've finish one person's present thus far. It had a lot of lace work so it took nearly three weeks.
I'm working on Dad's now -- a panda bear. He asked for it most of the year, so he's getting it. The pattern I'm using is
Jean Greenhowe's Polar Bear. I've adapted it by doing a black stripe in the center body, black arm, legs, and ears to match the real deal. I'm using felt for the eye patches instead of colorwork because the sheer volume of thought it would take to figure out where to do the intarsia was making my head spin.
I've been working on it for nearly a month. The knitted parts are done. I'm on the stuffing and seaming bits. I'll post a pic when he's done.
I'm knitting Mom
a couple of little kokeshi dolls. No clue what I'm making my sister yet.
Knee Surgery
Dad has knee replacement surgery on Monday. He'll be in the hospital for 2-3 days and will, in all likelihood, be coming home in a wheelchair. (Another reason to declutter the house/have a yard sale!)
Any positive thoughts and/or prayers for him would be appreciated. ♥
Writing
I've got my NaNo outline updated and ready to go. Not sure how much I'll get started on day one though since that's the day of Dad's surgery.
I have been working on the story in the interim. No, I'm not cheating; I'm not counting the work I've done thus far towards my 50,000 goal for this year. It's more of a warm up than anything else. ;D
