I SAW SHARKS TODAY!!!
The dive started out on a bad note. My o-ring on my tank burst while we were on the boat, leaking a bunch of air, but not too much thanks to Mike's quick reflexes. He replaced my ring. Then I was getting ready to put my BC on, and my BC inflator got stuck somehow, and wouldn't stop inflating! Josh had to pull out the tube going to my inflator from my tank to get it to stop. When he reattached it, everything seemed fine. That is bad news though, because if that happened while I was underwater, I would begin an uncontrolled ascent (if I didn't react quick enough by pulling the tube and deflation valves). If I entered an uncontrolled ascent from 50 ft. underwater I would have likely died of burst lungs or decompression sickness.
Sooo.... I went diving anyway. We don't usually dive on the forereef, and it is WAY more amazing than anything closer to the shore.
We were doing an observational dive on the forereef 50 feet down. We got down there and were down about 10 minutes and I saw my first sharks! Two lemon shards, 7-9 ft long. Then a couple black tip reef sharks, a few feet smaller came by. I didn't realize it at first, but they started circling us. We ended up having to actually cancel the dive due to danger from the sharks. FREAKY! IT WAS SO COOL. That was the first time that a dive has been cancelled for that reason in East West history :)
Damn this place is so exciting.
I believe that was the highlight of my life ;)
