FIRST ENTRY FROM OIT!!!!!!
Unfortunately, orientation's not done yet. Will edit entry when I come back ^___^
Okay, now for a REAL entry. Things are going just fine ^_____^ I'm completely settled in and in happy spirits. Lots have happened over the last two days, so I'll give a detailed report of what went down on the OIT campus.
Wednesday:
kiku_cha8_8 and my wonderful family friend Diem drove me down to Klamath Falls. I got to see a lot of fantastic views of mountains and lakes with a few reservoirs and creeks here and there, so that was pretty fun. The car ride itself was awesome, with lots of fun conversations about my AP Government teacher and random topics we kept bouncing around. When we arrived at the residence hall,
kiku_cha8_8 was very happy to discover that there was a hotel for luggage, since Virgil (my biggest suitcase) was so heavy that it took the combined strength of two-three pairs of hands to move it (and I live on the second floor) XD. After two trips of moving, the three of us decorated my side of the room, after a huge debate on what side to take and why I deserved the mattress that had a preset pad on it (don't ask). The RA and the RA's assistant stopped by to say hi, and I'll tell you why this was significant later.
I TOOK MY FIRST TRIP TO WAL-MART. AND LOVED IT. O___O I bought SO MUCH STUFF there, and I don't regret a single purchase. WAL-MART IS LOVE.
On Wednesday night, I stayed with
kiku_cha8_8 and Diem at their hotel, and experienced the dull joys of having endless channels to watch. Although it was discovered long ago, that night made me see that not having cable TV meant there were plenty of things to watch, while having cable TV opened up with nothing to watch. However, I got a good night's sleep ^__^
Thursday: On Thursday morning,
kiku_cha8_8 and I hopped into Diem's car and took a drive around the Upper Klamath lake, trying to look for a wildlife refuge, since we wanted to have one last event together before I had to be left alone. It turned out that none of the locals had even known the wildlife refuge existed, so we had absolutely no luck finding the refuge. We had a lot of fun seeing cattle ranches along the way though, lol.
After final goodbyes to my partners in crime, I went to the residential courtyard to have a root beer float. Prior to that, I was rearranging some stuff in my drawers when the RA's assistant stopped by my room and talked to me. It's kind of a natural reaction for me to not be talkative around people I don't know very well, so I tried to keep the conversation short. It took a lot for him to leave, but I finally did. When I made it to the courtyard to get a root beer float, I tried to sneak back to the dorm room. I looked up and saw the RA assistant's reflection in the window, and immediately turned around. He wanted to continue the conversation again. I talked to him for a while before finally making up an excuse to get back to the dorm. I haven't seen him since, but I got creepy vibes from him, so I'm not complaining. I think I was overreacting, though.
My roommate arrived during the late afternoon. While her family was helping her put away her luggage, I helped them out in whatever I could. They tried to speak Vietnamese to me after learning my heritage, but that failed. Eventually, we all exchanged greetings and I asked my roommate if she wanted to go back to Wal-Mart to buy our television (after learning that she didn't bring one). The family suggested that we go to Fred Meyer, so I agreed. Her family took me out to eat Thai food (and for that, I love them forever), and hopped over to Fred Meyer. We eventually bought a 20" screen TV, which promptly began the issue of redecorating the dorm room. I wasn't ecstatic about having to relocate the furniture, since I was comfortable with the way
kiku_cha8_8 and Diem set it up, but I had to accommodate to my roommate, since she's been nothing but good to me since she arrived. Eventually, we worked it out, and dorm pictures will be up soon.
Friday: Orientation day, also known as Screw-Up day. I thought it began at 8:00, so I woke up at 7:35 and rushed getting ready. It wasn't until I found out that the events didn't start until 11:00, so that was Screw-Up #1. When my roommate woke up, I found out that she didn't sleep very well because she was cold. I felt bad for not learning how to turn on the heater the day before, so that was Screw-Up #2. The student-faculty brunch was supposed to be a time to get to know your professors and fellow major classmates, but I just spent the time eating and not really opening up to anybody, so that was Screw-Up #3. Since there was a small gap between events, I decided to do the virus scan that I was supposed to do on Wednesday, but that took more time than I thought, so I was 35 minutes late to the next event. Everyone knew about it, and associated me with it, so that was Screw-Up #4. The last event of the day was bowling at the local alley, and I got a low score thanks to holding the ball incorrectly, so that was Screw-Up #5. Finally, I tried talking to
kiku_cha8_8 on a nearly dead cell phone, and had to cut it short, so that was Screw-Up #6. All-in-all, today was a mediocre day. If I could change anything, I definitely would.
On a lighter note, two of my textbooks came today, and my Psychology professor actually knows who I am, which is a good start. ^___^ I also made a new friend today! She's nine years older than I am, and was a correctional officer in California. She still is, but now she's a part-time student (or so I think). She asked me if I wanted to see Resident Evil: Extinction on Sunday. Since the faculty and professors won't be on campus that day, I won't have anything important to do. Should I go? We've just met, and I had to ask her for a ride to and from the bowling alley, so I don't want her to think that I'm taking advantage of her or anything ^^;;;; As a whole, things are starting out really well down here, and I'm in high spirits. College life, here I come!
