Every place I go to today this topic has been on discussion all day. Facebook, tumblr, twitter, and youtube. I first read this news through tumblr because hotmail and tumblr are the very first sites I visit and check when I turn on my computer. Seeing 75% of my dashboard filled with posts of videos, pictures, links and reblogs of the tsunami and earthquake in Japan was so frightening and sad to see.
My heart goes out to all the people in Japan fighting this tragedy and I hope that things will get better. Every time I see news about tsunami and earthquakes happening around in the world, I feel sad for the people suffering from it but yet it makes me frealize how lucky and fortunate I am to be living in a country where tsunami and earthquakes rarely happen. I made a small donation to the Canadian Red Cross after readomg about the news and will probably continue to make small donations when I have extra money to help and support the people in Japan.
And I can't believe how ironic this is. Just yesterday in class I was picking a topic for a group project that I had to do in which we had to pick a country and talk about 5 different aspects about that country - their culture, beliefs, language, music, art, etc and my group chose to do it on Japan. Now if only I knew about this earthquake before yesterday then I wouldn't have agreed to do it on Japan. What an extremely bad timing. My presentation for the project isn't due until a month later. I hope by that time things would have gotten better in Japan or I would feel extremely uncomfortable to talk about the country and its culture, especially after such a tragic incident. =(
