[One shot] MaruMass - Unexpected Monday Night Activities

Summary: Masuda is dragged out of bed in the middle of the night by his best friend telling him that he has to come and save Tokyo from major risk of destruction.
A/N: I started working on this thing sometime last summer I think but I just couldn’t finish it so it lay resting in my Fic folder until I decided to continue on it just yesterday. I really hope that some of you will find great enjoyment in this and that it might also lead to a laugh or two :D
Masuda wakes up to a flash of lightning in his bedroom and the whole room shaking. He raises carefully and with his mind still dazed with sleep he takes in the sight in front of him. In the middle of his bedroom stands a man dressed in a red, shirt, blue overall and a red cap looking straight at him with a serious face. Masuda blinks a few times as he moves to sit up in his bed to make sure he isn’t hallucinating but the man is there every time his eyes reopens.
“Who are you?” He asks hesitatingly letting his eyes look the man up and down.
“Don’t you recognize your own best friend?” The man replies sounding slightly disappointed and maybe a bit offended. The voice sounds familiar and after leaning a bit closer to get a better look of the man’s face Masuda is able recognizing him.
“Yuichi!?” Masuda’s eyes grow big as plates. “Why are you dressed like Super Mario!?”
“It’s my night time work uniform.” Nakamaru says smiling as he walks up to the bed and sits down.
“Uniform?” his friends reply does not make Masuda any wiser.
“Superhero uniform” Nakamaru develops his answer. “This is what I look like whenever I’m called out on a mission”
“You’re a superhero?” Masuda laughs. “You? You can’t be a superhero. You’re scared of almost everything”
“That’s just a cover up” Nakamaru says seemingly not offended at all at Masuda’s reaction. “If I act like a chicken then no one will suspect me for being a hero”
“Oh, that’s kinda smart” Masuda stops laughing abruptly. “So what are you doing here?”
“I need help with something” Nakamaru says as he stands up again. “There’s a giant pumpkin making its way towards Tokyo across the ocean. I’ve tried everything to get rid of it but nothing’s worked so far. You really have to come with me and save the citizen before it’s too late! ”
“But what can I do?” Masuda asks confused and admittedly a little bit freaked out over the thought of a giant pumpkin. It must be a very big pumpkin if it’ll be able to destroy a city.
“You’ll figure out when we get there” Nakamaru grabs a hold of Masuda’s hand and pulls him out of his bed before opening the window. He climbs up on the windowsill gripping Masuda’s hand more firmly. “Are you ready?”
“Ready for what?” Masuda says looking down at the ground through the open window and then at Nakamaru.
“This” Nakamaru grips of Masuda’s hand even tighter and without a warning he jumps out pulling Masuda along with him. Masuda can’t help but shriek as he is falling down as he is sure that he will soon meet a very painful death. Why did he have to live in such a high building?
“Don’t be afraid.” Nakamaru doesn’t sound scared at all as he manages to pull Masuda in closer to him as they quickly gets closer to the ground.
“But we-” Masuda doesn’t get his chance to finish his sentence before he with a soft thud lands on the concrete. He blinks in confusion over how the landing hadn’t as much as given him scratch but doesn’t get time to ponder over it as Nakamaru starts to sprint down the street still holding on to Masuda and with that he had no other choice but to tag along. Nakamaru moves fast as he runs over cars, jumps over walls and Masuda doesn’t get the chance to process anything until they’re already down in the harbour.
“Here. Put this on”
Masuda almost jumps out of his skin when suddenly Ueda appears dressed all in a purple, except for the long cape falling down his back and there is a sparkling butterfly on his cheek.
“Don’t scare like that Tatsuya!” Nakamaru lectures taking the piece of clothing that Ueda is holding out and hands them to Masuda. “Put this on Takahisa. It’s specially made for you”
Masuda takes the clothes and then looks around for a place to change. He sees an old phone booth that looks like it’d belong in the 90’s and runs over to it. Behind him he can hear how Nakamaru and Ueda are talking to each other, their voices sounding serious. He still can’t comprehend what’s going on and just to make sure he isn’t dreaming he pinches himself in the arm. It hurts but he doesn’t wake up in his warm and comfortable bed. This is not a dream.
When he gets back out from the phone booth he’s dressed in clothes similar to Nakamaru’s, only Masuda’s shirt and hat are green not red.
“So what now?” Masuda asks getting up next to Nakamaru. He still has no idea what he could possibly do to save the city from a gigantic pumpkin.
“Now you and Yuichi will fly out over the sea and try to come up with a way to get rid of the threatening pumpkin” Ueda answers with a stoic face. He looks kind of intimidating and Masuda shrinks back a little.
“You have no idea how that’ll be done at all?” he asks no longer able to try to seem composed. Is he just going to be thrown out like that and expected to fight a monster?
“We’ve already tried a few things but it hasn’t worked so we hope you’ll come with some new ideas” Ueda replies as Nakamaru puts a reassuring hand on Masuda’s shoulder and squeezes lightly.
“We’ll be fine Takahisa” Nakamaru smiles and then reaches into his pocket and pulls out some weird rainbow colour mushrooms. He hands a couple of them to Masuda. “Eat this.”
If it had been anyone else than Nakamaru offering him mushrooms like that he wouldn’t eat them but now it is Nakamaru. Masuda trusts Nakamaru more than anyone else so he puts the mushrooms into his mouth and starts to chew. They taste like skittles, like the green ones, so they go down easily. Once he’s swallowed them he feels how electric shocks go through his body and then pink and yellow sparks starts flying around him. Nakamaru’s taken a few steps back and is watching him with a smile on his face.
“What just happened?” Masuda asks feeling slightly dizzy once the shocks and sparks stops.
“I just gave you your powers.” Nakamaru smiles “You didn’t think I’d let you help me out with a mission without special powers?”
“Oh” Masuda says and then smiles. “So this means I’m like really strong and stuff now?”
“Yes” Nakamaru nods. “This means you’ve got extra strength, is able to move really fast, jump extremely high and fly”
“Cool!” Masuda’s fright for what they are about to do is momentarily gone.
“Let’s go then” Nakamaru takes a hold of Masuda’s hand and then starts running superfast with Masuda in a tow. They run out on a pier.
“When I say jump, jump, okay?” Nakamaru say as they get closer and closer to the edge of the pier.
“Okay” Masuda replies as the fear he felt before is quickly reappearing.
“JUMP!” Nakamaru shouts when they’re just at the edge of the pier and Masuda does. With full force he jumps, not letting go of Nakamaru as they go higher and higher.
“Now press the right button on your overall” Nakamaru says when Masuda feels how they are slowly falling back down. He sees Nakamaru do what he’s ordered him to do and suddenly Nakamaru isn’t falling anymore. He’s floating in the air. Masuda is quick to press his own button and soon he’s not falling lower anymore either.
They fly through the air for several minutes before Masuda sees something big and orange in the horizon. He gulps and Nakamaru squeezes his hand slightly.
“You don’t need to worry. It doesn’t spit fire or have any dangerous tentacles or teeth. The only harm it can do is if you get under it because then you’ll turn into freshly squeezed human juice”
“Oh, so it’s just like an ordinary pumpkin, only a whole lot bigger?” Masuda asks a bit hopeful.
“Yes, but we have to get rid of it or it will smash into land and kill a lot of people and destroy homes”
“So it’s not really a monster?”
“I guess you could say that.” Nakamaru smiles and Masuda sighs relieved over the answer. He’s really happy that what they’re dealing with is not some human eating pumpkin octopus. “So do you have any suggestions on how we could get rid of it?”
“Uh, dig a hole in it and fill it with water until it drowns?” Masuda suggests.
“Already tried it” Nakamaru sighs. “Even though I have super strength I still wasn’t strong enough to be able to even make a mark on the peal. It’s too hard and strong”
Masuda tries to come up with something else but he can’t come up with anything. His mind is too filled up with everything that he’s been experienced so far.
“Let’s land on the pumpkin and think over what to do” Nakamaru suggests and Masuda nods.
They’re floating over the pumpkin now and it really is a gigantic one. It’s as big as Tokyo Dome if not bigger. Masuda can’t help but think about just how many pumpkin pies one would be able to make out of a pumpkin that big. He licks his lips repeatedly while thinking of the pies as they fly down lower. Nakamaru lands first without any complications but then when Masuda lands a second later the whole pumpkin starts quake violently.
“Jump!” Nakamaru orders and they fly up in the air again. From above they watch as the pumpkin continues to quake and starts to crack. They don’t say anything until the whole pumpkin is destroyed. Pieces of the peal and big pumpkin seeds are floating in the water.
“What just happened?” Masuda asks still not being able to tear his eyes away from the pumpkin.
“I have no idea” Nakamaru says and he sounds just as stunned as Masuda feels. “But now all we have to worry about is how to clean this up. We can’t let it float like this.”
“Can I bring some home with me?” Masuda asks finally turning to look at Nakamaru.
“I guess so.” Nakamaru chuckles and Masuda beams happily at him.
Masuda’s whole body is aching when his alarm goes off at seven and he groans in displeasure as he reaches out a hand to turn it off. It feels like he actually did all that flying and carrying last night and not only dreamt it. He slowly rises from his bed and with slumberous eyes he throws a quick glance around the room. He stretches his arms above his head but stops and suddenly he’s wide awake. Hanging over the back of his desk chair a blue overall and a green hat is lying. Masuda rushes over and picks it up before he continues out to the kitchen where he opens the refrigerator.
“So it actually happened” Masuda says in disbelief when he sees all the pumpkin stocked in it. He’ll be able to do at least 20 pumpkin pies out of it. He just stands and stairs for several minutes and only gets back to reality when he hears a signal from his bedroom indicating that he’s received a new message.
