Writing Again

I stayed up way too late last night even though I knew I needed to be up at 7 this morning, because I was working on a retelling of Sleeping Beauty and, for once, inspiration and actual words were flowing with incredible ease. I didn't want to give up such a wonderful opportunity until I had no choice, and ended up staying awake til about 2:30. ( Read more... )

Desolate stories about Sleeping Beauty... feels like my life. I LOVE Sleeping Beauty retellings, I guess I just can't get enough of it as it is one of my favorite fairy tales.

Wish I had a title to throw out there, but I guess I just don't feel like I know enough about the story.

I've always had a special place in my heart for Sleeping Beauty, but it's generally overshadowed by my favored fairy tale trio, Snow White, The Wild Swans and Beauty and the Beast. The funny thing about the first two at least (I generally have a lot better luck with Beauty and the Beast) is that I have a hard time finding retellings of them that I really like. It's kind of annoying.

But back to Sleeping Beauty... Have you ever read Spindle's End by Robin McKinley? It's glorious. My favorite of her books, and possibly my favorite Sleeping Beauty retelling ever.

I'm going to have to look that up, I haven't heard of that one before. I love Enchanted by Orson Scott Card. It's actually the only one of his books that I've read, even though the husband is a HUGE Card fan. ^_^

I've run across it before (when I worked at the libary I was always reshelving Orson Scott Card's books) but never knew it was a version of Sleeping Beauty. I'll have to check that out. (Haha, book recommendation trade!)
