Ahh this is so cool. I've finished up my homework for tonight (I did so much yesterday, even some of tonight's!) and I'm going to go into SF to see Entrance live! Just so you get an idea...

That's them playing their song "Grim Reaper Blues".  And the opening acts look good too. A bunch of psych folk for openers. So, my mom and I are going into the city early to eat dinner there (!)(something exciting like mediterranean or pakistani) and then get to the venue a touch early to get tickets. Haha, for some reason, I'm being really touchy about what i wear to the concert because I definitely don't want to come across as a hipster. Ew. I'll probably be one of the youngest people there, like at the Mew concert, so I want to at least look the part.

EDIT: I have to update after the concert, of course. :P So, my mom and I left on Bart and walked to the venue, then got our tickets. We walked around a bit, looking for a restaurant and ended up going to an old-ish hamburger joint that used to be a drive in chain. There was a sandwich place across the street that looked really awesome, but it was packed full and we needed to get to the concert on time. I had fish and chips :P and then we headed over to the Great American Music Hall. We sat down on the side by the wall where they had tables and chairs lining the walls. Heh, I was feeling pretty conscious of my outfit, which was...erm, colorful. (pictures later when I don't need sleep, heh) Then when I saw the crowd that was there, there were a lot of guys with beards. It's like the 60s type of guy but plus Swedish inspired, dark colored clothing. What was shocking to me was the number of hipster types! Erg. There was an annoying group of girls that stood right in front of us and talked the whole time. Ew, just ew.

Anyways, the opening band was Lee Bob Watson. He was purdy good, actually. He was like classic, 40s country (like what Bob Dylan would play on his theme time radio) mixed with some folk. He looked the part, too, :P He had a long beard and short hair, just like some type of hairstyle you'd see on an old time pioneer. His slow songs were eh because they emphasized the very country slide guitar, but the rest that was fast was quite good. ^^
Then it seemed like a ton more people entered the building! There were hipsters galore, kids my age, and people just talking loudly. It turned out that the next band was...eugh, quite boring and mainstream sounding. They were called Little Wings. They had the beard thing going on too, lol. But all of their songs sounded the same: slow, the same tempo, similar singing, speeds up ever so slightly in the end, lame guitar solo somewhere in there. It highly resembled elevator music. So, I took the time to people watch. The whole time, there was a table of people that obviously were there for Entrance. They had the long hair thing goin' on and their clothes were simple and dark colored. One of the guys, in my mind, kind of resembled Jonas from Mew, but with longer hair. Haha, interesting. Some more chicks came in later and joined them. (a good time to join, after the boring band, methinks) So, they sat there around that table, unable to see the stage, until Entrance.
Next to play (thankfully!) was Mariee Sioux. She was amazing. She played her acoustic and sang her folk music so beautifully. Right up there with Joni and Joan, methinks. The absolute worst part was that people talked and TALKED through her playing!! >.< I did concentrate on the music and sat up in my chair so I could see her play. She had this beautiful long, black hair too. Sometimes I get really jealous of black hair, but thankfully that's only sometimes. But this was one of those times. :P After she was finished, there was a looong break full of people talking loudly and walking in front of us and changing spots. I decided to use that time to check out the merch table. Lee Bob Watson was there talking to the girl working the table. He had been walking around, holding a beer, the entire night. That's cool to see, them watching their fellow bands. ^^ Anyways, I was looking at the CDs and the girl said "only $10 for Cds" and the guy said "There's so many to pick from". The girl pointed to Mariee Sioux "you've got to get this one", then she pointed to his band's Cd "but this one...eh." Then Lee Bob Watson said something I couldn't hear above the crowd about keep on selling em or something like that, and walked off. The girl and I laughed and I ended up getting both Mariee Sioux's CD and Lee Bob Watson's...because I already have the newest Entrance CD. ;) I keep thinking that I should have gotten an Entrance shirt, but I dunno. They were pretty cool. Oh, and the girl at the booth gave me a Mariee Sioux sticker. ^^ That whole interaction really helped me feel better about being there. It was already a bit daunting. You know, a girl going to a concert full of druggie types in a venue in a questionable neighborhood...yeah. The people as a whole, I'm sure, were really quite nice...except for those who kept talking during Mariee. :(
Then at long last, Guy from Entrance came on! I proceeded to stand up in order to see. I actually had a good view of the stage from where I was, because the tables prevented anyone from standing directly in front of me. His hair looked almost exactly like Ginsburg (I'm serious. The long curlyish/wavyish dark hair and long beard.), but he had a hippie headband with silver stars sewed onto it in several spots. :P It sparkled. Heehee. And he had this awesome purple suit jacket with a purple vest with shiny gold front underneath the jacket. Guy said thanks to the tech people and introduced that he was going to start "Valium Blues" then be joined by the other members, Paz and Derek. Eee! I love that song. Plus, Guy's guitar playing is phenomenal! It was like Jimi Hendrix mixed with Syd Barrett with its own special twist!! Ak...so amazing. So he starts playing the main theme of that song, then the other band members come on stage. Paz, their bassist, is a chick (which is awesome), again with lovely long black hair. *spark of jealousy* After "Valium Blues", they play "Silence on a Crowded Train" which is multiple times better then on the CD. They really are brilliant live! Then Guy started messing around with his guitar, setting the pedals and stuff. Then he played the riff from "Grim Reaper Blues" and everyone started cheering (me included)! Then the drums started up then they went full blast into the song! It's an *amazing* song! UGH, so good! Again, live just makes it magical for some reason. Then Guy introduced the next song (which I currently forget the name of...) and that it was about Martin Luther King Jr. That song was good, but not quite as good as the others. I mean, the other ones had more of an element to them so you could explore it, along with his amazing abstract voice. This song was more of a verse, chorus, verse type. His voice wasn't as showcased. The next song was "Pretty Baby", which was another good one. Again, not as good as the other ones, but still good in its own right. The final song was "Lookout", which I love! He introduced the song as hope that there still can be good in the world, and to help us rid the world of hate in this year of the rat. Sounds hippie, eh? It's true in a way, though. I do love the lyrics of that song and the way the melody goes! So catchy... it's just a shame that one song isn't on the album I have. :( They have a live video of them playing it on youtube (here), though. *goes and watches* But we had to leave right away, in order to catch the last BART train out of the city. Annnd, now I'm here. And my mind is pretty much blown. <3 Entrance!
Cheers
