I read a book over this past weekend (don't worry, I'm paying for it now), but I thought I'd take a moment to post about it. It is entitled Elantris, by Brandon Sanderson (incidentally, I believe he is working on the last Robert Jordon book). It is not your typical fantasy. If anything, I'd call it a political fantasy because that is what most of the action consists of. The author is quite a world-builder, which is where most of the book's believability comes from. The characters are likable, though I doubt they engross many of their readers. And the magic system is cool. Anybody interested in land-based magic and looking for ideas should look at this book.
So if anyone cares to read a fantasy that isn't about rogue wizards, barbarians running around with swords, or evil gods, I'd recommend this book.
