I just finished The Virtu and I'm sad because it was so deliciously involving. More about that when I do my August book review, though. I am sad that I shall have to wait to read the next book in the series as it has just come out in hardback.

I just watched Babel without subtitles because I didn't have them, and I think I liked the film better when I thought it was supposed to be like that. It was really interesting to see how much you actually can pick up without knowing, say, Berber. But there wasn't much draw for me beyond that. You know you are sorely sleep deprived when you see a black nose attached to a large, dirty white, furry body crouching in the snow and think, "Fuck! It's a polar bear!" Yes, a polar bear in a residential neighborhood in Toronto. I bet that dog liked to think he was that badass, though.

Have just seen Children of Men, and now I'm so depressed that I'm going to watch the Keira Knightly Pride and Prejudice (I mean, I really can't get any more depressed at this point). Not that it was a bad film--I just didn't find anything hopeful about it. Don't see it if you want to be entertained.
