#randomtimetablemonday = Berlin Atlas und mehr 2014 (Berlin Atlas and more) German with English - 2014 Edition - EUR12,90

BVG + S-Bahn Berlin Atlas and more 2014

The first one of these I’ve done in a while, but this caught my eye at the LOTS Autumn Transport Spectacular for £14 (virtually new). It’s one I’ve ever actually seen before. It’s a combined timetable for bus, metro, tram, regional rail and more, in the Berlin city area. It’s mostly in German, but with a good amount of English.

It’s called an atlas because… well, it is a full street atlas, with an Index in typical A-Z format. It includes every transport option in a 1:20,000 scale in the suburbs ad 1:10,000 scale in the Inner City. Every route and mode and option is shown, down to every stop for buses. Schematic day and night maps are available for every mode, contact details, fares, full timetables colour coded (regional rail red, night bus grey, etc.). S-Bahn, U-Bahn, Metro (trams or limited stop buses), more local Trams, Express buses, local day and night buses, and ferries.

As you might imagine, it’s A4 and spiral bound, with a wire single comb, which allows it to fold to almost any angle. There is more than sufficient bulk, however, to stop it flopping over in most conditions. The two outer maps flap over the pages, making useful page markers.

After the main maps are some blow-ups of local areas, including a few 3D maps too. There is no external advertising either.

The most impressive thing is, this is an amazing resource. It might just become one of my regular purchases every year now - and it would certainly allow me to be confident at visiting a place I’ve never been to before. There is a cheaper map version, as well as various free leaflets. Before Saturday, I’d never seen one of these before. There is more than enough English to make sense to anyone (says the girl who scraped a 5 in Standard Grade German in 1995!).

You can buy these via the official BVG web-shop at
https://shop.bvg.de/index.php/product/404/show/0/0/0/0 . the site is in German, so here is their description translated by Google to English;
