Dr. Atul Gawande wrote an in-depth analysis for the New Yorker about skyrocketing health care costs. He visited McAllen, Texas, which has the highest health care costs per person in the United States. For comparison, he also visited the Mayo Clinic, which has some of the best health care in the country at about one-third the cost per person.
