Not my favorite of Claudia's books, but still strong. Last book read in 2015.

My husband recommended this to me as a very dark but strongly feminist graphic novel. I didn't know anything else about it when I began to read, so for some reason that description didn't match up with the male-dominated dystopia presented here. I really don't enjoy dystopias. I found this haunting.

Originally read this in January 2014. Reread it the other day, when I read the entire book out loud in one afternoon. It's rather a long book for that. I'm not sure my daughter understood most of it (she's not quite three and a half) but she kept telling me to keep reading, so I did.

At this point Riordan is just following a recipe he created: choose mythological system, import to modern day, add plucky hero/ine, and initiate mythologically-appropriate doomsday sequence. Add sword and stir. But Riordan does it so well at this point that it's just really fun to read.

I ordered this, read it, then gave it to my dad for Christmas

This was a lot of fun. Would be suitable (and extremely enjoyable) for bright and interesting girls as young as 8 or so, but it was those things for me as well. It was a bit silly, and at least three of the five leading characters tended to blur together, but that didn't really matter much.

I had completely forgotten that I'd read this book before, to the point that when I found a nice hardback at a used bookstore, I bought it and saved it for months, knowing that I would savor the last of GGK's early novels that I hadn't yet read. Plot: young woman with messed-up life gets act together by learning to train abused dogs and help them get their acts together. This was charming, and a bit deeper than I'd expected going into it.
