books 2015: The Sword of Summer (Magnus Chase #1), by Rick Riordan

At this point Riordan is just following a recipe he created: choose mythological system, import to modern day, add plucky hero/ine, and initiate mythologically-appropriate doomsday sequence. Add sword and stir. But Riordan does it so well at this point that it's just really fun to read.

I ordered this, read it, then gave it to my dad for Christmas.
