Who: Lisa, Stephan, Kyle, Juice, Michael, Kit, Livvy, Anna, Ming
Where: Sunset
When: Friday Night
Lisa paid her cover, and headed into the Sunset. She took a seat at the bar, and surveyed the place for people around her age.
Kyle was bartending, and looking contemplative.
"Hey, what do you recommend?" asked Lisa "No idea what anything on your menu tastes like."
"Well, are you hungry or thirsty?" Kyle asked.
Juice lurked with Kyle, looking calm.
"Both." Lisa said
Sam was sitting nearby, listning to the music and just being kind of mellow.
Kit Bothwell headed in, not paying the cover, and leading what appeared to be a thirteen or fourteen year old girl with a slightly wild expresion.
He headed straight for the red table.
Michael looked up. "Hey, Kit."
Stephan was running late. He headed inside and looked around, then headed for the bar.
"Well, traditional fare here at the Sunset would recommend a bucket of spicy honey wings and a Bloodlust, then," Kyle suggested.
"Hey kiddo- Merry Christmas," Kit said, and indicated the girl. "It's a bit late, and I didn't giftwrap, but hey..."
"That's what I want then." Lisa said "And he's paying." she pointed to Stephan, who looked a lot like her.
Stephan blinked. "I am?"
Michael absently wondered what about having a Chinese girlfriend made people think he considered women as objects.
"That's the best kind of food," Juice said. "The food that someone else is paying for."
"Okay... I think you'd better explain the rest of that," Michael told Kit, "or Ming'll be very annoyed."
"Yeah. So, pay the nice guy." Lisa said "And it is. I'm lucky my brother is so nice."
The girl peered curiously at Michael, though something about her expression looked like she might be considering whether or not to bite him.
Kyle grinned. "Juice, go get the wings, would ya?" He began mixing up a drink.
"She really, really is," Stephan said.
"Well, me keeping a thirteen year old slightly ferral girl at the house would probably be a bad idea," Kit conjectured. "So I figured it's a good project for you. I stole her from the Watchers. She's kinda experimental - and a little addled in the brainpain if you know what I mean."
"Sure thing, babe..." Juice ducked in the kitchen. "Yo Raul- gimme some wings, honey." He grinned. "Or well, honey wings."
Tim sat with Sam, trying to decide if he was going to cut his hair. He had a pair of scissors with him... he just wasn't sure if that was what he wanted to do
"Okay... and why did the Watchers have her? And what's your name?" Michael inquired.
"I still think it's a bad idea," Sam said, eying the scissors.
Stephan coughed up some cash. "I'd like one of those Chinese orgies, too. And a Bloodlust. Thanks."
"They had her since she was a kid, from what I could gather. They might have bred her for all I could tell - well, there were records, but they sort of got destroyed in the resultant fight," Kit said appologetically. "She may or may not be a mutant something. Or mustard. I didn't exactly catch it..."
"Olivia," the girl said, tilting her head to regard Michael. "Livvy."
"I'm going to do it." Tim said. "Let me see your scrunchie."
"Alright, coming up," Kyle said, and called to Juice. "Add a Chinese Orgy to that!"
He served up Bloodlusts.
"We're also having an orgy!" Juice called to Raul.
"Thanks" Lisa smiled, and sipped. "This is good."
"Well, nice to meet you," Michael said.
Sam pouted.
"It'll be fine" Tim said "And it it looks too bad, it will grow back"
"Nice to meet you," Livvy echoed. She continued to stare as if she wasn't entirely sure what to expect.
"Anyhow, do you think you can keep her here?" Kit asked. "It's either that, or turn her over to Research- but they're likely to put her back in a cage, and that's kinda mean - and not to mention, somewhat unhelpful."
"That's, like, ten years of hair growth," Sam said.
"Need employees?" Lisa asked "Work study pay sucks, the diner was closed, and I'm not trendy enough to work at a coffeshop or bookstore."
Juice collected food and brouht it out for the unsuspecting masses - aka, the customers.
"Yeah." Tim shrugged "But it'll grow back."
"She's really mouthy and she will start an argument over butter," Stephan added helpfully.
"Dork." Lisa swatted her brother
"Yeah, in TEN YEARS," Sam said.
"Okay, that may have been an isolated incident," Stephan said.
"Less than that." Tim said "Three or four, tops."
Kyle shrugged. "I don't, but I don't own the place. See the guys at the red table? They do."
"Sure, no problem," Michael said.
Lisa looked over to the red table. "Thanks. I'll eat, tease my brother, and maybe check. And, Stephan. It wasn't butter. It was margarine."
"I can't believe it," Stephan said blithely.
"Just because it comes in sticks does not mean it's butter. It carmalizes differently, the flaveor is different, and it's made of unhealthy oils."
Lisa was not arguing, she was just proving a point.
"Great- thanks. I gotta run, make sure my house hasn't burned down. She's all yours," Kit said, waving then heading for the door.
Livvy looked from Michael to Kit, uncertain of what she was supposed to do now.
Michael gestured. "Have a seat, Liv."
Kyle shook his head, amused. "You two are lucky."
"It was Land O' Lakes," Stephan said. "Unsalted Sweet Cream Butter. And how are we lucky?"
Livvy sat down at the table, folding her arms in front of her.
"No, it wasn't. I think someone switched it, and it would have ruined my popovers if I used it." LIsa looked to Kyle "Why are we lucky?"
Juice settled back down.
"You have family," Kyle said simply.
"So, do -you- have any idea what this is about?" Michael asked Liv.
"Yeah. That's a good thing." Lisa agreed "Stephan is a great brother... even though he's a dork."
"The Bothwell defeated the Watchers," Livvy said. "He took me to this town and told me I was to work for you now."
Stephan smiled. "Some people are born into families, others have to go out and find one. It's harder to do, but at least you get a choice."
"Fair enough - and what do you do?" Michael asked.
"Mine's just friends," Kyle said, "but they're still good people."
"This seems like a good place. ... Well, aside from the death and mayhem," Stephan said. "People seem to look after each other a lot, anyway."
"Wait... death and mayhem?" Lisa asked
"I mentioned the driveby," Stephan said. "Death. Mayhem."
"And me," Juice said.
"Fight the forces of darkness, undeath, and evil as required," Livvy said.
"I've got him." Lisa pointed to Stephan "And any new people I might pick up. You two seem okay. I'm Lisa."
"She is," Stephan agreed.
Sam sighed and handed over her scrunchie.
Tim took it, and tied his hair back. "It won't look too bad, princess. I promise."
Sam looked doubtful.
Tim headed off to the bathroom to cut his hair. Sam would be disappointed, but she'd get over it, right?
"Oh, well, then you're in the right place to hang out," Michael said.
"Wings are good too." Lisa nodded
"We're underground - it's hard to drive-by the place," Kyle pointed out.
"I'm not worried about drivebys." Lisa said "Wish me luck."
"Luck," Stephan said.
"Good luck!" Kyle added, cheerfully.
"Bothwell said I should listen to you," Livvy said. "So... hang out, okay. How do you do that?"
Lisa headed for the red table of doom to try her luck at a job that wouldn't be a sub minium wage work study job
Livvy's head swiveled around as she assessed the incoming potential threat. She got to her feet, growling.
"No snarling at customers," Michael chided.
Livy stopped growling, but still glared at Lisa like she might try to attack.
"Back down and take a valium or something, geez." Lisa said "I just came over to ask about a job. And Hi."
Livvy folded her arms, and continued to watch, but didn't growl anymore.
"Alright, what would you have in mind?" Michael asked.
Juice snagged a cherry and munched it
"Either kitchen or waitstaff." Lisa said "I'm pretty good with baking, and okay with regular cooking, but I learn fast. I just need something part time though."
"Hmmm... well, our cooking staff could use help. Are you interested in coming on for a trial period, so we can see how you perform under kitchen pressure?" Michael asked.
Raul produced wings and orgies, and rang a bell. "Order up!"
"Yeah. That's fine." Lisa said "How long of a trial?"
Juice headed to collect them. "Thanks, kitchen god." He saluted, then carried the food over.
"No problemo," Raul said.
"Tell you what. I'm not going to ask you to join up in the middle of the shift, but are you free this weekend?" Michael asked.
"Yeah." Lisa said "I just got to town, so, no plans yet."
"Alright. Come in here at six PM, and I'll put you on as chef. You'll receive pay for the time worked, and if things work out well, you'll be hired. Sound fair?" Michael asked.
Livvy still watched Lisa warily, but she had settled back into her seat.
"Sounds fair." she said "I'm Lisa MArcoux. You probably need a name if you're going to hire me."
"You know," Juice said contemplatively, "we should get Raul to hang with us more. And not just becuase he feeds us."
"We should," Kyle agreed.
"And you're related to him, right?" Michael said, pointing at Stephen.
Stephan was enjoying his Orgy. Like, who wouldn't?
"Yup. What did he do?" Lisa asked "He's my uglier and slighty younger brother."
"Nothing, just making sure," Michael said. "Anyhow, enjoy your evening, and be ready to work when you come in tomorrow, hmmm?"
"Of course." Lisa said "Thanks."
"You're welcome," Michael said.
"See ya tomorrow" Lisa smiled, and headed back to the bar.
Tim returned, with his hair about six inches shorter. He didn't cut it all off. Anyway- How could he be a drummer without longish hair?
Sam grinned. "Okay ... that, I can live with."
"I rock." Lisa said "I'm not even a rockstar, and I rock" she resettled
"You don't rock as much as these eggrolls," Stephan said, pouring a good-sized puddle of duck sauce and adding Chinese mustard to it.
Livvy stared after her, then returned her attention to Michael.
"How'd it go?" Juice asked.
"Yes, I do." Lisa said "Because I start tomorrow. I mean, it's a trial, but I've done work kinda like this before."
"Now then... are you hungry?" Michael asked.
Livvy nodded. "Yes."
"It's probably a little more complicated than making sandwiches," Stephan said, and crunched into an egg roll.
Anna headed in after patrolling to see if Mike needed any help.
"Well, I did more than make sandwiches." Lisa said
"You shoudl have one of these, they're really, really good," Stephan said.
Lisa made a face at her brother, and grabbed one.
"Ok, it's good." Lisa agreed, after taking a bite. "So, now that I'm going to be working here, you won't have to worry about me scaring away your groupies."
Livvy watched Anna warrily when she approached.
Michael nodded. "Hey, Anna. How's it hanging?"
"Hey." Anna waved "I came to see if you needed me to watch things for a bit? And to check on my sis... but she looks like she's fine."
Sam was playing with Tim's hair.
"Unless I, you know, play here," Stephan said.
"Well, things are okay. Sort of. I'll explain later," Michael said.
"..Okay." Anna said, glancing at the girl. She waved.
Livvy growled.
"You know, you really should stop growling at everybody," Michael said. "It's rude, especially since they're not dark, evil, or demonic."
Livvy stopped growling again, but still looked mistrustful.
"The hell?" Anna grumbled "Where's Ming? I want to see if she wants to hang out, now that I'm done parolling for the night."
"She went in back to put her books away," Michael answered.
"Cool" Anna said, grabbing a chair, and sitting away from demon girl.
Livvy glared at Anna.
Ming eventually emerged from the back room, and blinked at a strange person sitting at their table. "Hi Anna, hi hon- who is that?"
Anna glared at Livvy.
Livvy started to growl- then remembered she wasn't supposed to growl and just glared more.
"I have no idea." Anna said "But she hates me."
"That's Liv. She was kept in a cage by Watchers. Now she stays here," Michael summarized.
"Oh... poor girl," Ming said, frowning. "Why did they keep her in a cage?"
"Ok, that does suck." Anna said "She's got no reason to hate me though."
"Liv, why were the Watchers keeping you locked up?" Michael asked.
"I bit one," Livvy said.
"Good girl." Anna grinned
"And why were they keeping you in the first place?" Michael continued.
"He was a bad man," Livvy said.
"I don't know," Livvy said. "I was in the room, and then the cage. As long as I can remmebr."
"That's sad," Ming said. "Watchers are mean."
"They are." Anna agreed
"They took me in the van - then The Bothwell was there, and he took me out of the van and they fought," Livvy explained.
"Well, you're going to be living here for a while," Michael said.
"Okay," Livvy said. "In a room, or a cage?"
"A room of course," Ming said. "We don't cage people."
"In a room. I don't do cages," Michael said.
"How old are you?" Anna asked
"Thirteen they say," Livvy said. "I don't remember many years."
"Well... we're nice." Anna said, to Livvy "And you'll probably get to do kid stuff. Have you done any of that?:
"What stuff?" Livvy said.
"Playing games, kicking a ball around... um... video games. Just having fun." Anna tried to think of more stuff
"I read books and trained and fought and had treatments," Livvy said. "And slept and ate."
"Well, I think Nica has some Sweet Valley High books or something." Anna wasn't sure. She knew girls liked stuff like that "Anything that you like to do?"
"I read about demons and the undead," Livvy said.
"We could teach her how to play games," Ming said. "And maybe girly books would be good... or at least books that don't involve hell."
"So, you like reading about demons and undead?" asked Anna "Or is that a work sorta thing? And yeah. Games and girly books."
"I read what they tell me to study," Livvy said, shrugging.
"If you never had to study or fight or train again, what would you do?" asked Anna
"I don't know," Livvy said. She'd never thought about it. "Sit? Sleep?"
"Have you had ice cream before?" asked Anna
"No," Livvy said, shaking her head.
Michael attempted to flag the Juice down.
"That's a good place to start," Ming said.
Juice headed on over. "You rang, bossman?"
"Oh hell yeah." Anna said "I want some too."
"We need ice cream, and a lot of it," Michael announced.
"Okay!" Juice said. "Four of them? Or should i just fetch cartons?"
"Just fetch a carton, a scoop, four spoons, and four bowls," Michael advised.
"You got it- any flavor prefrence?" Juice asked.
"I like mint chocolate chip," Ming said. "Or cookie dough."
"Sounds good to me." Anna said
"Agreed," Michael said.
Juice headed back for the kitchen, and collected some ice cream and bowls and the like
"So... Ming. How are you?" asked Anna
"I'm good," Ming said. "I was having a calm night.. but this brought a little excitement. Heh."
Juice emerged with the ice cream and bowls
"Here you go, guys!"
"Thanks Juice." Anna smiled "Well, I came to see if you wanted to hang out. This works too."
Ming started scooping out bowls of ice cream. "This is ice cream. It's cold and yummy and good."
Livvy watched the scooping process, interested.
"It's really good." ANna said, grabbing her bowl "So, you should like it."
Ming pushed a bowl and spoon towards Livvy
Livvy shoved the spoon in the bowl and started shoveling the ice cream into her mouth. She looked surprised to find it so cold and sweet
Anna ate her ice cream, and watched Livvy to see how she reacted... well, she wasn't throwing the bowl yet, so that was good
Livvy lifted up another spoonful, and poked it with her tongue
"Don't eat too fast or you'll get a headache," Ming said.
Michael ate, looking thoughtful.
Livvy took a big bite of the ice cream, then made a face as the coldness hit
"Why is it cold?" Livvy asked.
"It would be liquid if it wasn't" Anna said
"It's hard to eat," Livvy said.
"Take smaller spoons of it." ANna suggested "And don't chew."
Livvy glared at her ice cream for being so difficult, but did as Anna suggested.
Ming ate her ice cream and watched the girl carefully
"Better?" Anna asked
Livvy nodded. "Yes. This tastes good when you can eat it."
"Good! Glad you like it." Anna smiled
Livvy worked on her bowl of ice cream slowly
"Never a dull moment around here," Ming said, shaking her head. "So how are you,Anna?"
Michael nodded at Ming's comment.
"I'm okay. I had a pretty calm day too." Anna said "So... um, I guess we're going to have to go shopping soon."
"Oh yes... I don't suppose she came with clothing," Ming said.
Michael nodded. "No, Kit just dropped her off."
"Kit tends to do things like that- though never a live person before," Ming mused. "Well, okay, there was that one time he left his cousin here - but he did get her later."
"Do you think he'll babysit while we're in school?" asked Anna "Cause I can stay with her.." She wasn't trying to get a legit reason for skipping school- really
"Heh." Michael decided that mentioning that Kit had called her his Christmas present was probably not a good idea, given that people would take it way too seriously.
"Someone probably should," Ming said.
"If nothing else, I'll keep an eye on her," Michael said.
"Maybe we could take turns" Anna said
"Maybe," Michael agreed.
"I don't want you to get too stressed." Anna said "Because things suck when everyone is stressed out over stuff. Same thing goes for Ming. I don't want her to be stressed either."
"Yeah... well, we try not to stress," Michael said.
Ming hugged Anna. "Yeah, we try to be mellow"
Anna hugged. "Good. You guys deserve good stuff. Mellowness, and you know, beach vacations"
"Heh." Michael just sighed.
"We never even get to go to the beach here," Ming said. "Well, not that it's the right season for it now, but still."
"We should just kinda... make it happen." Anna said "It'll take some work, but it can be done."
"Might be nice in the spring," Ming said. "A little vacation. Or hm, through the doors... if only we could figure out which door went where."
Livvy had finished her bowl of ice cream and was licking the spoon
"The doors freak me out." Anna said "If I knew what went where- then maybe."
