Jonathan and I were out on the Quad, playing GI Joes, when the fire trucks pulled up. No one really even did a double take, because, Hello? Sunnydale. Fire trucks are like, everwhere! What with all the combustible tap dancers and burninating vampires who learn the hard way about why Creatros De Los Noches shouldn't go out in the day.
"Probably another drill," I shrugged at Jonathan. "Hey, your guy totally infiltrated my camp."
Or maybe some girl burnt herself with a curling iron. Those things are murder on your hair.
Ten minutes later, the trucks were still there. I also had seven new grass stains on my tan Dickies, all because Jonathan and I had a little altercation. Stupid Jerkathan totally tried to hex me for TK'ing his best guy, but I took him down with my strength and cunning. He squirmed underneath me, embarrassed about wrestling in plain sight of our schoolmates. Who seem to be extra-judgey these days. What's up with that?? Anyway, I had Jonathan in a kind of sleeper hold when something ocurred to me.
"Uh oh," I gasped, freezing up.
"GET OFF," Jonathan grunted, so I did. He rubbed his neck and glared at me, but I barely noticed, as I was looking at the plume of smoke rising from behind the building. Looking in the same direction, he asked me what that could possibly be.
"Doy, Jonathan! Where's there's smoke, there's arson! Someone call the fire department!" I yelped, getting to my feet.
Pointing duly at the fire trucks, he rolled his eyes. Oh, yeah. Whoops. Very cautiously, Jonathan asked, "Andrew... did you leave something on in our room? That smoke looks like it's coming from our dorm!"
I gasped and pressed a "Moi??" hand against my chest. WHY I NEVER! Aghast! How could he think something like that of me! Leaving something on, before leaving the room! Preposterous! I would never be so irresponsible!
"Yes," I admitted, quietly. "I think I might have left my flattening iron on and sitting on a bunch of rags that were soaked in paint thinner."
