I have 7 pages of my 12 page paper that is due by 4pm on Friday. It's getting there... I am satisfied with the 7 pages. I just don't want to do any more. Writing about people who live in extreme poverty is depressing. I have to walk away after awhile because I realize just how easy my life is. There are so many things we take for granted. Like clean sanitation, clean water, food, freedom of speech, education, access to health care, access to medicine... I could go on. Not only do we live easy lives, but they are also worthless. I mean, really, what is the point? Capitalism is a crazy cycle. We go to school so that we can get a good job. We need the good job so we can pay bills and buy stuff. We have bills because we need things like water, food, a place to live, transportation, etc. What is the point? It is all a matter of survival. Why bother? Well, we bother because we want to feel like our lives have meaning. But they don't. Each one of us is a speck on the planet. 1 of 6 billion is nothing. And how is it 2008 and 1/6th of the world population survives (sort of) on less than $1 per day, but plenty of people in the US can afford to gas up their planet killing monster trucks & SUVs? I don't understand why we aren't doing more. As much as our reputation in world politics has suffered, we are still the powerhouse. We have more competition for the spot than ever though. So why aren't we doing more? Why share when we enjoy our iPods, wireless laptops, bluetooth enabled cell phones that have digital cameras - mp3 players - and palm pilot technology built in to them, cars to take us where ever we want or need to go, widely available education, and just about any opportunity we could ask for? We are selfish. We are money hungry. We want the control. Our well-being is far more important than the innocent people being killed in the middle east because we have to protect the beloved oil fields and the supposed threat of terrorism. Hello! We have terrorists here, and you can't fight terrorism. Trying to fight terrorism simply breeds it... *steps off soap box*
I feel better. For now...
Wait *steps back on soap box*
So the presidential race... Democrats are neck and neck... I will be honest, it is really starting to piss me off. I think it is great that we are trying to chose between a woman and a black man. My theory for a long time has been that we freed the slaves before we freed the women. Now, as a feminist, I CANNOT vote for Hillary. Sorry, Steve... I was really split between Hillary and Obama. Then Hillary cried on camera... twice. I am sorry, but when we have a woman in the white house, she is going to have to prove that she is strong. While I don't view crying as a weakness, I know that many men do. The women's liberation movement didn't happen so that we could have a crying president... However, if Hillary wins the democratic nomination, I will definitely vote for her over McCain... *steps off soap box*
Now, I am finished...
Well, I guess my procrastinating must come to end if I want to sleep between now and Friday... kill me...
graduation is 11 days away!
Good night friends
